Position Highlights:
The Molecular Pathology Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the diagnostic molecular laboratory section. This oversight includes technical supervision of processes and testing procedures as well as management and supervision of personnel. The supervisor is also responsible for bringing in new technology, maintaining the department quality control and quality assurance program, proficiency testing, competency testing, meeting all regulatory requirements (CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, etc.), instrument maintenance and inventory management. Other duties include budget preparation and review, cost accounting, productivity management, testing and auditing of the LIS, and other duties as assigned by manager or director. The molecular pathology supervisor also serves as a liaison between the clinical test development laboratory and the diagnostic molecular laboratory, coordinating the transition of validated assays into routine clinical use. The supervisor may also perform the duties of a technologist as workload requires.
The Molecular Pathology Supervisor exercises broad independent judgment and decision-making abilities and requires minimal oversight to complete assigned tasks. Possesses superior organizational skills, demonstrates a great deal of initiative and can work very independently.
This position works under the scientific direction of the department Medical Director.

- Is ASCP certified.

Responsibilities:
- Provides day to day oversight of testing staff and activities within the laboratory to ensure that quality and regulatory requirements are met and test results are reported within defined turnaround times. Adjusts staff assignments and responsibilities to meet department needs.
- Provides training and orientation for new staff, residents, and fellows. Maintains a competency
- Performs and reports tests according to standard operating procedures as established in the laboratory. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of testing theory and scientific principles, routine testing procedures, and instrument operation and maintenance requirements, as they apply to FISH testing
- Maintains department operations in compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, updating policies and processes to comply with new requirements as needed
Credentials and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology, Medical technology or Biologic Science is required.
- Licensed Medical Technologist with Molecular Specialty by the state of Florida required.
- Must possess 5 years experience in molecular pathology, medical technology or related field to include experience related to nucleic acid extraction and amplification by PCR techniques, DNA sequencing, mutation analysis, molecular oncology, appropriate specimen handling, quality control, and quality assurance as related to molecular laboratory techniques.
- Sound technical knowledge of specialty as it relates to test validation, performance, QC, and QA activities knowledge of all applicable laboratory regulations required.
