Primary Purpose: As a member of the Graduate Program Team, the clinical coordinator will assist with the administration and coordination of clinical placements within the Nurse Practitioner program. The primary goal of this position is to support student success and enhance student experience through all stages of the student lifecycle.

Nature of Work: The College of Nursing is the largest non-departmentalized college at the University of Saskatchewan and the Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner program is a thriving remote online program within graduate studies. Reporting to the Associate Dean Research and Graduate studies and working closely with the Nurse Practitioner Program Coordinator, the Clinical Coordinator will function with a high level of independence, decision-making and accountability. Assisting in the development and execution of key program components, this position will serve an important role in the coordination of clinical placements for the Nurse Practitioner program within Saskatchewan and across Canada.

This role is a complex position requiring an applicant with strong technical and social skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload with competing priorities. Attention to detail is critical, with the ability to plan months in advance, while also managing the day-to-day priorities. Travel within the province is an expectation. This position is based at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
  • Establishes mutually beneficial partnerships with health care agencies (provincially and nationally), clinical placement personnel, faculty at the University of Saskatchewan, and partner institutions to develop opportunities for appropriate community and institution-based practicum experiences for Nurse Practitioner students
  • Responsible for participating in all aspects of planning, coordinating, managing, tracking, and evaluating clinical practicum placements for the College of Nursing's Nurse Practitioner program in collaboration with the NP Program Academic Lead and NP program coordinator
  • Maintain direct contact with students, supporting students as they navigate the clinical placement process in the NP Program
  • Ensuring ongoing effective communication with NP program faculty, instructors and preceptors
  • Track student's clinical placements to ensure that they are provided with the appropriate learning environment
  • In collaboration with the NP Program Coordinator and other NP team members, develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates the appropriate Health and Safety guidelines and processes (e.g., CPR, fit-testing, CRC, pandemic planning, TLR, HSPnet, and WCB consent forms)
  • Contributes to ongoing development, maintenance, and analysis of the computerized clinical placement database to maximize the effectiveness of the system
  • Works collaboratively with all provincial Nurse Practitioner programs to ensure adequate clinical placements for students
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of special projects related to expanded clinical placement opportunities (e.g., community development practice, rural and remote experiences, interprofessional placement opportunities)
  • Actively participates in and provide expertise and knowledge to committees as required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies

Qualifications

Education: Registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or equivalent.

Experience: At least 3 to 5 years of directly related experience in a post-secondary or equivalently complex environment is required. Teaching experience and/or having held a position with Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) are considered assets.

Skills: Knowledge or willingness to learn and understand the Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner programs, curriculum, professional competencies and provincial health care milieu, clinical resources, clinical placement trends, and Nurse Practitioner student preceptorships is required;

Must be solutions oriented, self-motivated and creative with the ability to provide innovation and a project management approach to the position;

Expertise in using Microsoft Office software and databases is essential to the success of this position;

Ability to effectively work both independently and as a part of a team is necessary; strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal;

Self-directed and innovative; and the proven ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently, meeting competing demands and tight deadlines;

Must interact positively, respectfully, with tact, discretion, and confidentiality and cultural awareness.

Valid driver's license is required.
