In the energy market, a Settlements Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a team of professional Analysts responsible for the accurate and timely financial settlement of energy trades, ensuring compliance with market regulations, and managing operational risks. They work closely with trading desks, counterparties, market operators, finance, and audit teams to ensure smooth and accurate transactions.
The team plays a crucial role, as they form the backbone of the wholesale energy market, ensuring that producers are paid for the electricity they generate, and consumers pay for the electricity they use.
Key Responsibilities
Settlement Operations Management
Oversee the settlement of power, gas, and other energy-related trades.
Ensure accurate and timely invoices, payment processing, and reconciliation of energy transactions.
Manage settlement cycles for physical and financial energy contracts, including futures, options, and bilateral trades.
Review and approve transactions per policies and procedures.
Understanding of contractual obligation for accurate settlements and delivery.
Reconciliation & Dispute Resolution
Reconcile trade data with counterparties, exchanges (e.g., ICE, NYMEX, EPEX), and independent system operators (ISOs).
Investigate and resolve discrepancies in pricing, volumes, and payments.
Work with power operations risk management, accounting, IT and compliance teams to mitigate financial exposure.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
Ensure settlement processes comply with market regulations (e.g., FERC).
Maintain accurate transaction records for audits and regulatory reporting.
Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting energy trading and settlements.
Work with accounting to ensure transactions subject to accrual are captured timely and accurately.
Monitor and ensure key settlements metrics are met.
Risk Management & Internal Controls
Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks in settlement processes.
Implement internal controls to prevent settlement failures and unauthorized transactions.
Work closely with risk management and credit teams to monitor credit exposure and margin requirements.
System & Process Optimization
Optimize settlement processes through automation and system improvements.
Work with IT and key stakeholders to enhance settlement efficiency.
Ensure accurate integration of trading platforms (e.g., ETRM systems like Openlink, or Endur).
Team Supervision & Stakeholder Coordination
Supervise Settlement Analysts and provide training to enhance team engagement and optimal performance.
Act as the key point of contact between traders, finance, risk, and counterparties.
Communicate settlement status, disputes, and financial impacts to management.
Project management and lead, acts as a consultant for the settlements team.
Education/Experience
Education
Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
Experience
Prefer five or more years in related field.

Compensation Range:
$107,025.00 - $178,375.00
Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
