About the Role:

The TPE Product Quality Engineer provides our manufacturing and supply chain partners with technical engineering support related to Solar's gas turbine components and assemblies. TPE engineering accountabilities are defined by part family and engineers are expected to support all model lines with respect to their accountable part family. The TPE Product Quality Engineer primary roles are:
  • Be a first responder to all operations support (TMO & GSC) demand.
  • Be the authoritative body for dispositioning discrepant material.
  • Be responsible for dimensional integrity when reviewing and processing PPAP documentation.
  • Drive process rigor for sustained long term manufacturing and quality improvements.


This position requires collaborative identification of repeat non-conformances with internal customers in both Operations and Supply Chain. The individual is responsible for executing projects to reduce hidden cost of poor quality through structured approach such as Six Sigma and Lean methodologies. Product Quality Engineers are expected to work closely with their TPE Producibility counterparts to promote full understanding of process improvement opportunities and challenges impacting their respective part family. Ability to be proactive and work in fast-paced Manufacturing environment is mandatory. Some travel may be required.

What You Need To Have
Educational Background:
  • A Bachelors or Science degree in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering or closely related degree with three or more years of design/engineering-related experience is required.

Effective Communications:
  • Must be a proactive self-starter with strong communication skills who gets along well with others and demonstrates a high sense of urgency when needed.

Managing Multiple Priorities:
  • This position also requires multi-tasking skills balanced with the ability to pay attention to detail.

Technical Excellence:
  • This individual should possess a fundamental knowledge of design practices, quality management systems, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read Engineering Drawings, understand design intent, read and interpret results from CMM, ATOS, and similar reports
  • Experience in the review and dispositioning of discrepant material
  • Knowledge of ASME-Y 14.5M-1994 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), CREO (or related CAD systems)
  • Broad knowledge of quality practices & process (QMS) related to production; ability to lead & collaborate
  • Basic knowledge of Materials & Processes such as plating/coating, heat treatments, brazing/welding and material testing methods
  • Basic knowledge of Manufacturing Processes for investment castings, sand castings, forgings, sheet metal, exotic materials and precision machined components
  • Basic knowledge of machining and NDT inspection processes
  • Basic knowledge of Turbomachinery Design, Manufacturing and/or Supplier Technical Experience

Top Candidates Will Have:

Communication skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication


Technical Excellence:
  • Fundamental knowledge of gas turbine theory
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Design Engineering methodologies
  • Basic knowledge of quality systems and processes such as MRCA
  • Strong collaboration & communication skills; ability to influence & develop standard work
  • Demonstrated capability to perform data analytics and creating digital solutions
  • 6Sigma Black Belt experience is a plus
  • Project management skills and leadership abilities are highly desirable.
  • ProE/Creo (or related CAD system), Windchill, BAAN, Excel, and technical writing.


Proactiveness:
  • Candidate should be capable of working effectively under their own initiative, with minimum direction, as well as part of a team.
