Your Opportunity:
The Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program (ACARP - formerly known as ARCH) team is a consult service located at the Peter Lougheed Centre, Foothills Medical Centre, and Rockyview General Hospital, specializing in addiction medicine. This position is located at PLC. The ACARP team is multi-disciplinary and comprised of medical and allied health, health care providers. The ACARP team provides wrap around services to patient(s) who present with active substance use concerns. Specializing in supporting the primary care team to offer a full spectrum of services through a recovery orientated model of care, inclusive of harm reduction, low-threshold services, trauma informed care, and offering interventions to improve social determinants of health. ACARP is a grant-based program helping patients start or progress on their recovery journeys through timely identification of those in need of supports, and by offering immediate access to a recovery-oriented system of care (ROSC). Reporting to the manager of ACARP, the Registered Nurse (RN) will be a member of a multidisciplinary addiction consult service and provide a range of services to patients who are experiencing substance use disorders. The RN works to full scope while adhering to CNA Code of Ethics, CRNA Practice Standards and the Health Professions Act as per the provincial RN job description. They will complete comprehensive substance use assessments and make treatment and referral recommendations in collaboration with ACARP physicians. Have knowledge of the diagnoses and treatment of substance use disorders including OUD & OAT. Familiar with patient flow in the Emergency Department, in-patient units, triage based on patient needs, and advocate for evidenced based approaches. Collaborates with community partners to facilitate community connections for patients who are being discharged directly from the ED.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year experience working in an acute care or community setting. Minimum 1 year working with clients or patients who experience substance use disorders and/or houselessness. Knowledge of Opioid Agonist Treatment. Knowledge of harm reduction and community resources that support people who use substances. Demonstrated strong assessment and intervention skills. Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize competing demands. Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated effective collaboration within a team environment. Understanding and application of information and communication technologies, such as Connect Care.This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:
Acute care experience within the last year, preferably emergency department environment. Additional trainings or certifications in addiction medicine considered an asset. Current NVCI and Connect Care Training.
