$90,000 - $110,000 a year
Base pay is scaled depending on experience + Performance based Quarterly Bonus + Equity.

Job Description:
We're seeking an exceptional Hardware Test Automation Engineer to design, build, and maintain test and calibration stations that are essential to the development and performance validation of our cutting edge lidar systems enabled by Lumotive's Light Control Metasurface technology. This is a hands-on, multidisciplinary role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hardware-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test stations for lidar system calibration, performance testing, and characterization.
- Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to define test station requirements, algorithms, and workflows.
- Select optomechanical components and lab instrumentation; build custom fixtures, jigs, and electronics control boards.
- Perform hands-on bench work including mechanical assembly, soldering, wiring, and debugging test setups.
- Develop and integrate control software in Python to interface with test equipment and station peripherals.
- Document test station design, operating procedures, maintenance routines, and test results.
- Define and execute QA routines to ensure station accuracy, reliability, and repeatability.
- Present test data, methodologies, and key findings to technical and leadership teams.
- Participate in design and code reviews to uphold software quality and maintainability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Advanced degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience developing test automation systems using Python.
- Strong Python programming fundamentals, including experience with hardware control, data analysis, and database interfaces.
- Experience with Python testing frameworks (e.g., pytest) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with SQL databases and interfacing with database APIs.
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals (circuits, power, signal integrity).
- Comfortable working with test & measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQs) using interfaces like VISA, SCPI, USB, Ethernet.
- Skilled in hands-on work in a workshop setting: soldering, mechanical assembly, hand tools, and power tools usage.
- Self-motivated and adaptable with a startup mindset-comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration.
- Experience with lidar systems or optical testing is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with optical measurement tools (e.g. spectrometers, photodetectors, IR cameras, lasers).
- Experience designing scalable, maintainable automation frameworks.
- Knowledge of Python packaging and distribution best practices.
- Exposure to CI tools and test automation pipelines.
- Experience with SQL schema design and data migration.
- Familiarity with dashboarding/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and rapid prototyping (3D printing).
- Experience with CAD design.
- Familiarity with Linux/UNIX automation (permissions, services, system configuration).
