Job Purpose

We are seeking a forward-thinking Database Administrator with strong experience in both traditional RDBMS platforms and modern cloud-managed database services. This individual will be responsible for provisioning, securing, tuning, and automating database environments that support critical vehicle inspection and data systems. The DBA will work collaboratively with Engineering, DevOps, and Security teams to ensure our data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and performance-optimized in both on-prem and cloud environments (AWS/Azure).

The Database Administrator's principal objective is to oversee daily operations of the company-wide databases and manage related projects. This role will work closely with the Engineering/IT departments to enhance and optimize company databases.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provision and manage cloud-native database platforms including Amazon RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, and PostgreSQL/MySQL managed instances.
  • Configure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation for repeatable, version-controlled deployments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated backup and disaster recovery plans across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Monitor system performance using tools like CloudWatch, Datadog, or Azure Monitor; analyze trends and mitigate bottlenecks.
  • Implement role-based access, data encryption, and auditing procedures to ensure compliance and data integrity.
  • Partner with developers and DevOps to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployments.
  • Optimize query and index performance across production and staging environments; analyze execution plans and statistics.
  • Automate repetitive administrative tasks using Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for schema design, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and database normalization.
  • Maintain high availability using solutions such as read replicas, multi-AZ failover, clustering, and replication.
  • Participate in database architecture planning sessions and design reviews.
  • Create and maintain documentation for schema, configuration, access, and maintenance procedures.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or similar role in mixed on-prem/cloud environments.
  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL, including high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Strong understanding of cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL Database).
  • Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and version control tools like Git.
  • Solid scripting abilities in Python, PowerShell, or Bash for automation.
  • Deep knowledge of query tuning, indexing, and data modeling best practices.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks, compliance standards, and audit logging in data environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative and analytical mindset.
