ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Asphalt Manager, the Assistant Asphalt Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily plant operations, coordinating and organizing crews for production and maintenance. The Assistant Asphalt Superintendent is responsible for ensuring inventories of Paving Material and Asphalt Plant parts are maintained and the plants are operated safely, on budget and in compliance with specifications and customer expectations.
The Assistant Asphalt Superintendent contributes to organizational excellence by continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration and empowerment (ACE) enabling continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Achieve all financial targets, including budgets, forecasts, and profitability levels, through diligent process adherence and results monitoring
- Ensure accurate and timely maintenance data entry to support accounting.
- Collaborate with the Manager and Salesperson to promote solution-based selling, fostering strong customer relationships and proactively understanding their needs.
- Effectively resolve customer problems, both internal and external, to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Effectively schedule and plan production to meet customer needs
- Attend and participate in plant inspections
- Sign off on payroll
- Troubleshoot and resolve concerns regarding maintenance and operations of the plants
- Ensure environmental standards and regulations are adhered to.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: College diploma or University degree

Required Work Experience: at least 3-5 years of related experience

- Proven team leadership
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
- Good knowledge of heavy industrial, preferably asphalt or aggregates, and working in unionized environment
- Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
- Independent thinker
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret plans and specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
- Ability to effectively present information in writing, and respond to questions from a group of managers, clients, customers and the general public
- Ability to calculate figures, amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume
- Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- High capacity of working under pressure and stress
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
