About the Role

The LNGC Site Security Program Lead (SSP Lead) will provide Security advice and support all Security related activities at the Kitimat LNGC site. The SSP Lead will oversee security contract management and operational security matters.

The SSP Lead will develop framework, management systems and provide assurance for all aspects of full site security including MARSEC. Working collaboratively with the Marine Facility Safety Officer (MFSO) and LNGC Corporate Security Manager to ensure compliance and assurance of LNGC security processes and Regulatory requirements.

The SSP Lead will report directly to the Corporate Security Manager and has an indirect line to the Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO).

You will use your expertise to:

  • Work closely with the Marine Terminal Management and HSSE Management to ensure a consistent, common, and adequate approach to security compliance
  • Identifies regulatory security requirements and provide assurance our internal processes are aligned
  • Identifies gaps and implements plans so LNGC meets all pertinent regulations and standards (Security Management for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry Systems - CSA Z246.1, business principles, security standards; and that applicable staff and contractors apply the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights in the Extractive Sector (VPSHR) and the Rules on the Use of Force; Transport Canada, and Marine Transportation Security Regulations (MTSR)
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of security standards, internal (LNGC) and external (Regulatory)
  • Evaluate and provide effective communication of security risks, trends and mitigation to Asset Leadership Team and functional stakeholders
  • Provide security risk assessment, and develop security plans for Kitimat LNGC facilities, events and activities to reduce LNGC's exposure to security risks to 'As Low as Reasonably Practicable' (ALARP)
  • Implement and maintain fit-for-purpose security management system, policies, plans and procedures for non-complex security risk and emerging risks affecting business operations
  • Provide support and mentoring to asset contract security team and focal points; develop training deliverables in collaboration with L&D and ensure LNGC staff are briefed and have good awareness of the following security areas: information security, data privacy, personal security; deliver a workplace violence and support MARSEC
  • In liaison with Corporate Security, internal stakeholders and external sources, identify, quantify and assess security threats to ensure timely flow of intelligence and prioritized threat information that may impact the LNGC business
  • Work closely with the Corporate / HSSE Security Manager, LNGC HSSE Team and MFSO, to provide assurance that there is a consistent, common, and adequate approach to security governance
  • Effectively manage/support LNGC's response to any security incident, ensuring HSSE incident and emergency response plans are followed and adjusted using a learner mindset
  • Lead and participate in Security Incident Investigations per the LNGC Incident Investigations Processes
  • Plan and deliver Security Exercise Program and implement learnings across the organization
  • Participate in the LNGC Incident Management Team as Security Officer, this may involve being available outside of regular office hours
  • Ideally hold Marine Facility Safety Officer (MFSO) qualifications and ensure delegated security standards for MARSEC are applied and maintained
  • Develop multi-discipline integrated HSSE emergency response solutions for planned and unplanned events (Workplace Violence, High Risk Terminations, etc.)
  • Manage security technologies, equipment, systems and vendors and suppliers in collaboration with asset support team


To be successful, you will have:

  • Post secondary education preferably security management or equivalent
  • 10 years' experience with progressive leadership roles in a management security role preferred in the global energy industry
  • 5 years' experience in Marine Facility Security would be ideal
  • In-depth understanding and experience with physical security principles and their impact on the mitigation of threats against people, assets and information
  • Experience in conducting security risk assessments is an asset
  • Evidence of a strong safety leadership ideology is a must
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining calm thinking during stressful situations.
  • Advanced communication, able to deal with conflict situations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proven capability and experience in high-risk operational activities
  • Expertise in management system design, implementation and continual improvement, specifically as it relates to HSSE management systems
  • Demonstrated experience leading presentation to various size groups including leadership.
  • Knowledge of International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) Recommended Practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft systems including Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel
  • Solid experience of stakeholder management across functional lines
  • Good communication skills - both written and verbal - to build credibility with senior stakeholders, and develop and maintain a credible security network
  • Proven track record of implementing and managing functional initiatives across various business groups, contracted parties and stakeholders
  • MFSO (Marine Facility Safety Officer)
  • Demonstrated experience in incident management., (Incident Command 100/200)
  • Demonstrated experience in contract Management and working with third party security contractor partners

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)

  • Know that this role may be expected to be on call on a rotational basis during the year and/or during site specific situations.
