Description:
The Director of Pediatric Services and Clinical Education will provide pediatric palliative and hospice care that focuses on enhancing quality of life for the child and family, preventing and minimizing suffering, optimizing function. This leadership role encompasses program development, clinical oversight, regulatory compliance, staff management, interdisciplinary coordination, outreach, business development and strategic planning to support children and their families through end-of-life care. Clinical education to our clinical staff to provide and improve the skills and knowledge needed to give the highest level of care to our patients. Will participate in a variety of quality improvement projects and develop and lead initiatives to improve staff performance through education and training. Will work towards becoming a thought leader in pediatric palliative care and support the development of a palliative care institute with United Hospice leadership.
Director of Pediatric Services Responsibilities:
Responsible for clinical and operational oversight for pediatric hospice services.
Ensures delivery of high-quality, patient- and family-centered care consistent with the organization's mission and pediatric palliative care best practices.
Responsible for the development of the pediatric program design and implementation
Oversees the development and implementation of care plans tailored to the unique physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of pediatric patients.
Collaborates with medical directors, nursing leadership, social workers, child life specialists, chaplains, and bereavement counselors.
Provides leadership and mentorship to interdisciplinary teams to ensure excellence in care and communication.
Facilitates ongoing education and training related to pediatric palliative care, trauma-informed care, grief, and bereavement.
Ensures all pediatric hospice services on your caseload comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS, HIPAA, OSHA).
Develops and monitors quality improvement initiatives and outcomes for pediatric programs.
Participates in audits, accreditation processes, and reporting for regulatory bodies.
Advocates for the needs of pediatric patients and their families across clinical and non-clinical settings.
Oversees bereavement and psychosocial support services tailored to children, siblings, and caregivers in conjunction with the Director of Counseling.
Ensures culturally competent and developmentally appropriate communication and care.
Designs and expands pediatric hospice programs and services based on community needs.
Builds partnerships with hospitals, schools, and community organizations to raise awareness and improve transitions of care and increase patient census.
Represents the pediatric hospice program in community events, fundraising, and policy discussions.
Clinical Education Responsibilities:
Designed, create, and provide training and orientation for clinical staff.
Coordinate personalized training plans and mentorship plans for staff. Provide field supervision to test competencies as deemed by own and design feedback loop.
Will create and deliver multiple in-service trainings to clinical staff throughout the year.
Develop and manage patient services logistics to ensure patient satisfaction.
If not at time of hire, become an expert in Joint Commission Accreditation standards and ensure that all required trainings are provided and recorded to the Commission standards.
Provide detailed reports to leadership pertaining to training effectiveness and detailed recommendations for improvements.
Oversee our annual RELIAS online training curriculum and provide detailed reports to leadership pertaining to effectiveness of training curriculum, as well as recommendations for improvements.
Participate as a member of QAPI committee and lead initiatives to provide responses to correct and improve services through education and training.
Perform periodic and systematic clinical record reviews to monitor compliance, provide feedback to staff and leadership. Use information gained from audits to design, create, and deliver education and trainings to improve staff skills and patient care. Collaborate with Quality Assurance department and seek assistance as needed.
Investigate issues pertaining to the quality of care provided to patients and provide education and training recommendations leading to the design and creation of a training response for staff.
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and creation, design, and delivery of safety trainings.
Participate in quality assurance reviews of complaints, medication errors and adverse drug events, falls, infection control issues from a training and education perspective, provide solutions.
Will be in rotation as administrator on-call.
