Pay Rate: Min $109,116.80 Mid $136,406.40Position Summary

Responsible for collaborating in the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective program that promotes safe care for mothers and babies at Lakeland Regional Medical Center by keeping patient safety at the center of all unit operations and clinical practice. The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in areas of evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, evaluation and assessment of complex patients, education, mentoring, and change leadership. In cooperation with the Associate Vice President, Women's and Services; Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Patient Care Managers and their staffs; OB/Gyn Department Chair; Pediatric Department Chair; and Nursing Professional Practice; collects, evaluates, analyzes and reports data required for clinical service quality evaluation.

    • Standard Work: Clinical Practice Coordinator
    • Keeps abreast of changing national standards of clinical practice and safety science literature. Disseminates pertinent safety and specialty related information and contributes to the development and implementation of best practice guidelines for Perinatal Services.
    • Maintains a working knowledge of national benchmarks and broad-based quality initiatives relevant to large segments of this hospital patient population. Designs, implements and evaluates mechanisms to collect, track and disseminate data and educate medical and nursing staff regarding strategies for performance improvement pertaining to designated indicators. Reviews patient related documentation, medical records, and other sources to identify unsafe practices that could result in sentinel events and potential adverse events. Role models and promotes awareness and appropriate follow through to quality and/or safety issues; i.e. encourages staff to identify and report adverse events and near-misses, notifies manager/director, etc. In cooperation with Perinatal Services administrative and medical leadership and Risk Management, participates in sentinel event and adverse event report investigation: -Reviews medical records, assists in interviewing staff, examines equipment, and coordinates documentation as part of the investigation. -Participates in development of action plans and tracks progress. -Incorporates findings into educational efforts. -Maintains a list of recommendations that have been made after these investigations; tracks division progress in correcting systematic problems. -Assists Risk Management in acquiring documents, fetal monitoring strips, and other data on designated cases that are undergoing analysis.
    • Provides input into relevant Hospital and Perinatal Services clinical policy and procedure development and implementation. Participates in patient safety or administrative walk rounds. Actively participates in & facilitates Perinatal Safety initiatives.
    • Through participation, fosters and promotes clinician engagement with clinical drills for high-risk situations (e.g., shoulder dystocia, obstetric hemorrhage, emergency cesarean birth, and neonatal resuscitation). Provides regular patient quality and safety educational programs for staff. Facilitates EFM strip reviews. Assesses documentation through chart reviews and provides feedback to clinicians.
    • Coordinates, facilitates and supports teamwork-training program for all department members. Promotes ongoing reinforcement of teamwork skills. Promotes NCC certifications for staff (EFM, Inpatient OB, Maternal Child, Neonatal).
    • Engages in clinical and professional leadership activities such as nursing shared governance, hospital-based committees, community, regional and/or national organizations, and specialty-based program development; promotes customer service excellence by personal example.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Master Degree


Other information:
Experience Essential: Minimum of 2 years of perinatal experience

Experience Preferred:
-Five year of perinatal experience and involvement in quality initiatives
-Formal team training (i.e. TeamSTEPPS, CREW Resource Management)

Certifications Essential:
BLS; Specialty Certification (EFM and/or Inpatient OB)

Certifications Preferred: STABLE; NRP; PALS

Licenses Essential:
RN

Licenses Preferred:
MSN, APRN, CNS (Advanced Nursing/Clinical Degree)
