The estimated pay scale for the Principal Scientist role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $92,000 - $115,000 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 8% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data. Summary:
Responsible for research, development,observation, and consulting on the optimization and validation of laboratory methods for the assay project. Primary responsibilities for role:
- Researches and develops new biochemical and microbiological methods for testing Grifols products and process samples.
- Performs method development for biochemical characterization of purified protein products using techniques including enzymatic activity determination, high-performance liquid chromatography, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and enzyme-linked immunoassays.
- Develops methods for determination of ambient microbial level to assess contamination by microbial agents.
- Performs stastical analysis of data obtained from development and validation studies to support implementation and changes to methods.
- Researches and designs protocols for validating existing and new laboratory tests and assists in the transfer of validated methods to the Grifols Quality Control (QC) laboratory.
- Performs some testing required during method development and validation.
- Maintains and reviews calibration data associated with QC laboratory standards and trends changes in standard or assay performance.
- Reviews and revises standard operating procedures for technical accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Consults with and assists the QC department in troubleshooting or investigating instrument and assay problems.
- Notifies QC management of any potential quality issues related to test validations and provide recommendations for quality improvement.
- Assists in the resolution of audit observations related to validations and proposes corrective actions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and decision making skills. Strong technical writing skills. Requires a fundamental understanding of analytical methodology, protein biochemistry, immunochemistry, chromatography, electrophoresis, spectroscopy, and ELISA. Requires a familiarity with statistical methods for data analysis.
Education:
- M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) in Biochemistry, Physics or a Life Sciences field
Experience:
- Requires at least five years experience working in a laboratory, at least two of which should be in a cGMP environment such as is found in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. Prefer individuals with experience in laboratory method validation
Equivalency:
- Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level requires a Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate's degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 2 years of experience.
