General Summary:
The Infrastructure Engineer II holds overall technical responsibility for the implementation, modification, enhancement, and ongoing support of the operating system and the software tools required to manage related infrastructure. This role is critical in enhancing infrastructure capabilities and ensuring robust monitoring and management of systems. The IE II provides Level II technical assistance for both existing and emerging infrastructure technologies, ensuring application availability, configuring new implementations, and developing processes for the ongoing management of the enterprise computing environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in infrastructure development, monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and Nagios, and certificate management. They are also responsible for optimizing system component performance and evaluating or approving corrective measures to address any performance variances.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$80,630.00-$165,500.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. Job Specifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent relevant business experience.
- 4+ years of related hands-on infrastructure experience in both on-premises and cloud environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Industry certifications are a plus.
- Strong technical expertise across multiple operating systems, infrastructure components, and subsystems.
- Proven ability to develop and implement complex technical solutions independently.
- Experience supporting in-house developed applications and partnering with application development teams.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and Nagios, and logging platforms like Splunk.
- Proficient in certificate management, including issuance, renewal, and troubleshooting across environments.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for streamlining operational tasks.
- Able to evaluate and recommend technologies to meet long-term computing and infrastructure goals.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; able to work productively in cross-functional teams.
- Skilled in resolving complex technical issues and coordinating across multiple support teams.
- Well-organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively present technical concepts to leadership and non-technical audiences.
- Capable of translating infrastructure requirements and constraints into practical technical solutions.
- Experience collaborating across IT teams to gather requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Defines, implements, and manages relevant infrastructure technologies.
- Performs tool administration and provides platform application support.
- Reviews and remediates infrastructure security issues, applies patches, manages console roles, and installs security packs.
- Implements and maintains enterprise monitoring using tools such as Alert Site, PagerDuty, Microsoft Operations Management Suite (OMS), SCOM, Azure monitoring tools, Dynatrace, Nagios, and other relevant network monitoring platforms.
- Develops dashboards, alerts, escalations, and automated monitoring solutions.
- Enhances infrastructure capabilities and ensures robust monitoring and system management.
- Maintains expertise in certificate management, including issuance, renewal, and troubleshooting.
- Establishes scalable solutions for future implementations and automation; identifies and executes automation opportunities.
- Transfers knowledge through documentation and training across teams.
- Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders, developers, and application teams to resolve complex infrastructure and application issues.
- Provides accurate estimates, participates in planning sessions, and delivers technical leadership.
- Follows incident and change management processes; creates and maintains run-books and system documentation.
- Participates in on-call rotation for emergency support and escalations.
- Works closely with operations leads and project managers to improve reliability, reduce costs, and ensure system performance meets expectations.
- Troubleshoots and resolves complex system issues affecting applications and services.
- Provides technical mentorship to less-experienced team members.
- Interfaces with vendors and customers to identify and implement effective solutions.
- Reviews and improves application backup, recovery, and redundancy strategies.
- Develops and maintains technical drawings, operational procedures, and hardware/software inventories.
- Communicates technical solutions effectively to non-technical stakeholders and identifies how technology can drive business value.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
