Manages long-term acquisition planning and budgeting, develops, and implements protocols for strategic deployment of equipment based on the waste generation characteristics needs of each Sanitation district of the city.

Overview
The Superintendent - Sanitation Fleet Services provides high level management and oversight for Sanitation's solid waste collection fleet. Manages long-term acquisition planning and budgeting, develops, and implements protocols for strategic deployment of equipment based on the waste generation characteristics needs of each Sanitation district of the city.
Essential Functions
1 Manages and oversees Sanitation fleet capital planning, budgeting, assignments, maintenance, and related work; coordinates Sanitation mechanics work order assignments, evaluations, and inspections; works with managers and supervisors to ensure all Sanitation fleet equipment is operated and maintained according to standards and regulations.
2 Oversees the productivity of Sanitation mechanics, inventory, fueling, and parts management; provides high level management for personnel challenges and other operational issues; resolves challenging and complex problems that arise and makes managerial decisions.
3 Manages and directs monthly reporting and logs pertaining to City credit card and fleet operations; conducts, oversees, and participates in regular mechanic work and effectiveness inspections and monitors workload and scheduling.
4 Works closely with managers and supervisors to determine short- and long-range goals; collaborates with upper management to determine strategic direction and facilitate operational success and productivity.
5 Attends, conducts, and participates in meetings with executive team regarding upcoming department changes, information regarding equipment and updates on interdepartmental objectives, feedback about end user department concerns, Vendor evaluations, and to provide advice on department policy and regulations.
6 Directs, coaches, and manages direct report employees and exercising management influence upon other managers and supervisors responsible for overseeing operators of Sanitation equipment to ensure adherence to standards and regulations; identifies training needs for employees; meets with employees and supervisors on fleet-related topics.
7 Oversees and directs hiring and onboarding activities for fleet-related positions; reviews applications, contacts applicants, sets interview schedules and interview board; completes all paperwork required for interview process, and engages with executive team to determine best candidate for position.
8 Develops and determines methods to improve production or effectiveness of the fleet operations; oversees compliance and permitting requirements and ensures that all activities and operations are meeting internal customer needs and being performed professionally.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in a public administration, business, automotive technology, or engineering field.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years of experience in fleet management that must have included in one (1) or more of the following:
- Oversight and management for shop maintenance and repair operations,
- Contract management, analysis, and fleet specification development
- Procurement of fleet equipment/asset management.
AND
- Three (3) years of supervisory/management responsibilities
EQUIVALENCY:
- High school diploma or GED plus nine (9) years of the required experience including two (2) years of the stated supervisory/management experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Associate degree in any field plus seven (7) years of the required experience including two (2) years of the stated supervisory/management experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a non-specified field plus seven (7) years of the required experience including two (2) years of the stated supervisory/management experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
- Master's degree or higher in a specified field plus three (3) years of the required experience including two (2) years of the stated supervisory/management experience will meet the education and experience requirements
LICENSE:
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Salary Range
$85,183.59 - $106,479.49
