Mesa is seeking a Protection and Controls (P&C) Senior Design Engineer with 7 - 10 years of experience working in the power utility industry. The successful candidate should be familiar with all major control schemes associated with Power Substations P&C design as well as Line/Circuit protection schemes. Experience shall include the ability to read Power System One-Line Diagrams and experience designing the full complement of Substation P&C design drawings including development of: relay diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC & DC elementaries, front and rear panel views, wiring diagrams and communications diagrams. A BSEE from an ABET accredited University is required.

The successful candidate will work in an in-office (hybrid basis), collaborative team environment to provide engineered P&C designs for constructability of Power Substations ranging in voltage levels from 34.5K to 500kV. This individual will be expected to be skilled in all aspects of P&C Substation design and be able to lead design projects from conceptual through completion of constructible design. This exciting opportunity will include mentoring and training activities for junior engineers and designers as well as interface and coordination activities with other design disciplines (Physical, Civil/Structural, etc.). Familiarity with Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Electrical would be considered a plus. Proficiency in verbal and written communication required. Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer would be considered a plus.

Education/Experience:

  • A BSEE from an ABET accredited University (required)
  • 7 - 10 years of experience working in the power utility industry


Responsibilities:

  • Perform P&C design with a high degree of accuracy (Quality)
  • Work well as a team member as well as individually
  • Use MicroStation to create the assigned deliverables
  • Interact with the Customer and meet their schedule and budgeting requirements
  • Mentor junior Engineers/Designers
  • Review work of other team members
  • Perform work safely.


This opportunity is for a hybrid work environment (home and office) and requires residing in the Knoxville, TN area.
