The mission of this team is to monitor, protect, research, and enhance the water quality and aquatic resources in the lower Colorado River of Texas, its reservoirs and tributaries. In this senior scientist role, you will help monitor and assess the aquatic ecology and water quality of this incredible region, and work with partners and colleagues throughout the basin to accomplish our goals. If you are highly skilled at working with scientific data, quality assurance, designing studies, aquatic science and/or limnology, then we want you to apply. You will be trusted to:
- Serve as a senior scientist responsible for guiding and at times leading scientific studies and data quality management documentation for the Aquatic Science Team within LCRA Water Quality Protection.
- Lead and/or participate on projects related to freshwater mussel science and conservation (including the LCRA Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances), phytoremediation, phytoplankton, fish, reservoir nutrient dynamics, data visualization and water quality impairment investigations.
- Utilize a SQL Server database and statistical analysis tools to query and analyze diverse data sets. In addition, you will be responsible for writing reports to document findings.
- Perform as lead coordinator on the feasibility, design and implementation of phytoremediation project(s).
- Review team scientific reports and contractor's reports prior to finalization.
- Work collaboratively with team to create monitoring plans and assist, as needed, with collecting water quality or biological data in the rivers and reservoirs of the Colorado River basin.
- Interact with citizens and stakeholders in a professional manner to answer questions and educate them on topics related to water quality protection as opportunities/needs arise.
You qualify with:
- Nine or more years of experience in water quality analysis, planning, protection, environmental program administration, environmental compliance or other relevant experience. A degree(s) in science, engineering or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
- Driver's license
You are a great fit with:
- M.S. or Ph.D. degree in science or water resource engineering.
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance Project Plans.
- Experience using SQL Server Management Studio and R/R-Studio.
- Ability to occasionally lift 30 lbs and work in a variety of weather conditions.
