Position Purpose:

The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is responsible for the overall safety and well-being of the NICB and its employees and strives to ensure all employees and visitors enter a secure environment. As part of these efforts, the CSO continually monitors all facets of the physical security systems in place at Headquarters and serves as a liaison to Field Operations. Additionally, the CSO develops and manages the NICB Insider Threat Program, is responsible for maintaining and updating the NICB Business Continuity Plan and aligns with IT on systems security.

Work Arrangement and Description:

This is an office position which means the individual is expected to report in person to Headquarters (Oak Brook, IL) to fulfill the their job responsibilities.

Competencies/Duties:
  • Develop and manage the NICB Insider Threat Program and physical security training.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of physical security measures of Headquarters Office Operations and liaison to building management and field offices to protect company facilities, personnel, and assets.
  • In coordination with the IT Department, ensure the development and monitoring of security protocols, including access control, surveillance, and incident response.
  • Provide employees with NICB policies related to acceptable and safe security practices to support a culture of security awareness and compliance.
  • Fingerprint all new Headquarters employees in support of NICB requirements.
  • Manage physical security related policies including Attack Simulation exercises and policy review.
  • Participate in audits which ensure adherence to ISO Claim Search Use, Business Continuity, and Security policies by NICB employees, member companies and law enforcement personnel.
  • Conduct investigations into alleged misuse of ISO, Accurint or other databases available to NICB employees.
  • Work with the IT Department to lead the development and implementation of business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Maintain and monitor a listing of employees in compliance with the current NICB firearms SOP.
  • Collaborate with executive leaders to integrate security considerations into business decisions and processes.
  • Manage the NICB HQ Office Services Team, providing mentorship and development opportunities, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Manage the HQ pool car fleet by ensuring all maintenance issues are addressed.
  • Inspect cases and operational work in the regions as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements/Abilities:
  • Ability to develop and implement long-term security strategies that align with business goals.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and educate stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proactive and innovative approach to identifying and addressing security challenges
  • High level of organization skills.
  • Ability to remain objective and unbiased
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications - Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure:
  • 10 years of experience in investigative and/or security management or other related experience required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from a sponsoring government agency. Candidates with a current security clearance preferred.
  • Experience in law enforcement preferred
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred
  • Experience in managing security incidents and crises, with a calm and decisive approach under pressure.

This position has one direct report and one indirect report

Salary Range and Statement:

The salary range for this position is $106,284 to $133,855. Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors including the specific requirements for this position, the candidate's geographic location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
