Job Summary
Laser Process Engineer develops, implements, and optimizes laser-based processes for product development, packaging improvements and production. Candidate will be a critical member of a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineering team focused on producing industry leading advanced power component solutions used in industrial, hyperscalers, AI, aerospace, defense, and automotive industries.
Job Description
Works to develop advanced manufacturing capabilities and packaging processes utilizing precision laser equipment. Will be involved with specification/development of necessary equipment, process development, qualification, scale up and production.
Troubleshoots laser systems, as well as analyzing process performance and recommending improvements. On a day to day basis monitor line production performance and when required take immediate corrective action working with operators, supervisors and line techs to trouble shoot process problems.
Leads communication with laser manufacturers to identify new opportunities through next technologies for Vicor Manufacturing.
Responsible for creating and refining laser programs, ensuring quality, and improving efficiency.
Analyze process data to identify areas for improvement, optimize parameters, and implement process changes.
Own and drive continuous improvement of yields, throughput and cost.
Insure adherence to all relevant safety regulations and procedures related to laser operation.
Work with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and operators, to achieve project goals.
Maintain accurate documentation of laser processes, procedures, and equipment specifications.
Implement and maintain continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, quality, and safety.
Implement and manage real time SPC and utilize Six Sigma tools such as PFMEAs to implement meaningful process controls.
Improve current strategy for prevention and detection allowing target of 0 ppm. Strategy requires communication with other process owner from front end to back end to ensure optimal condition at laser work center.
Animate discussion with Operation and Maintenance teams to optimize both downtime and yield.
Communicate with NPI / Design team to suggest approach in favor of better yield.
Supports the organizational goal of Automotive Readiness in preparation for IATF 16949 Certification.
Monitor line yield and scrap short term and long term issues and working with operators, supervisors, line technicians, design engineers, test engineers, and quality engineering to conduct root cause analysis with appropriate corrective action and preventative actions to improve yields.
Actively identify and lead cost reduction initiatives including new innovating manufacturing processes and product packaging improvements
Education / Qualifications
Strong understanding of laser physics and optics.
Experience working with lasers, optics or material processing in both development and production environments and a strong technical knowledge of industrial laser products
Bachelor in engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Physics, Optics) or a related field required
Master or higher degree in material science or engineering is preferred
Laser application experience > 5 years
Proficiency in using laser programming software and CAD software.
Proficiency in SPC, DOE, FMEA and statistical analysis
Track-record of solving problems in high-volume manufacturing and R&D
Knowledge of laser safety regulations and procedures .
Experience with CAD software (e.g., CircuitCAM, SolidWorks) (preferred).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to multi-task and manage several priorities simultaneously.
Ability to fit in high pace environment.
Strong communication and documentation skills
Compensation Data
Salary Range:
$100,000 - $140,000
Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity.
