Business Development Director/Analyst

NextCure, located in Beltsville, Maryland is seeking a Business Development Director/Analyst in support of our clinical pipeline. This is an excellent opportunity for a prior FDA or Government employee with transferrable skills. The Director will utilize their knowledge of early-stage programs, preferably in Oncology, Neuroscience, Bone and/or Wound Healing with an interest in exploring end-to-end aspects of business development in the biotechnology industry.

Job Description

NextCure is seeking a Business Development Analyst to conduct due diligence for new clinical stage opportunities in Oncology, Bone, Neuroscience (Alzheimer's), and/or Wound Healing therapies. The Analyst will lead, develop, and implement strategies to advance first-in-class clinical opportunities into product pipelines in support of partnering, registration, and licensing activities.

The Business Development Analyst will support company expansion and growth through the identification of new clinical products for Oncology, Bone, Neuroscience, and/or Wound Healing programs. The Analyst will identify partnering opportunities from a clinical, commercial, operational, financial, and strategic fit to drive value creating transactions. A key component of the role includes developing business cases to define value added synergies to NextCure's current portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct due diligence for companies and academic institutions in support of strategic partnering opportunities; formulate recommendations through targeted outreach
  • Identify and propose innovative programs and prospective partnering for advancing clinical stage therapeutics in the areas of Oncology, Bone, Neuroscience/Alzheimer's, and/or Wound Healing
  • Build tools to identify combination and next-generation therapies as part of life cycle management strategies based on supporting rational across (i) science, (ii) medical, and (iii) commercial inputs
  • Define criteria and generate scorecards to evaluate opportunities by summarizing substantial amounts of clinical, operational, and financial data
  • Analyze and prepare recommendations regarding scope, timeline, budget, resources, and milestones for partnering collaborations, ensuring defined roles and responsibilities
  • Define competitive clinical strategies to successfully advance first-in-class product candidates toward registration, as part of a global development strategy
  • Pro-actively monitor the changing competitive landscape to propose adjustments on clinical development and partnering strategies
  • Articulate disease indications and therapeutic approaches beyond standard of care to identify disruption opportunities from existing treatment options for differentiated first-in-class products
  • Identify key clinical criteria that FDA and other regulatory agencies would expect to support product registrations in consideration of each indication and disease
  • Support negotiations, drafting of term sheets, partnering agreements, and licensing transactions

Required Education and Experience
  • MD preferred with the ability to provide clinical recommendations for early-stage drug therapies and programs; MBA or PhD in biological sciences considered
  • Previous role or interest in building and closing business transactions in a clinical setting and Biotechnology environment
  • Prior experience in an FDA or Government position assessing clinical indications for therapies, partnering opportunities, or proposals for Oncology, Bone, Neuroscience (Alzheimer's) and/or Wound Healing desired

Qualifications
  • Strategic and results-oriented with outstanding business instincts to identify and recommend clinical stage opportunities and prospective partnerships
  • Exceptional people and negotiation skills with working knowledge of structuring opportunities; Transferrable experience attained within an FDA or Government setting considered
  • Outstanding analytical and communication skills to clearly articulate complex and abstract clinical or therapeutic issues in support of product pipelines
  • Capability to work with independence and proactively advance projects towards results
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects efficiently, with agility and independence
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and ability to work in matrix team environment
