12-month contract with potential for extension and/or permanent placement
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller provides leadership to the organization in the areas of Accounting, Payroll and Financial Reporting.The position is responsible for all aspects of completing timely, accurate accounting and financial reporting under ASPE; budgeting; monthly financial statements; financial planning and analysis; and preparation of reports to executive management and ownership. - Short and long-term planning and management of the accounting team.
- Overall P&L reporting.
- Oversight of the payroll function.
- Presentation of timely and accurate financial reports.
- Communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
- Preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Cash flow analysis and management.
- Completion of year-end review engagement(s) with external auditors.
The successful candidate would bring a variety of competencies to the role including:
- Strong knowledge of ASPE and GAAP reporting requirements.
- Effective prioritization and flexibility in managing changing priorities.
- Commitment and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to mange a variety of work tasks while maintaining strong attention to detail and effective quality outputs.
- Working knowledge of multi-divisional, multi-location environments.
- Corporate tax knowledge considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate, and collaborate effectively - both cross functionally and with the Accounting team.
Candidate must also possess the following experience and training credentials:
- A relevant university degree, and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is mandatory.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated financial management expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a team to deliver on the daily financial requirements of various stakeholders.
- Experience leading year-end audit/review engagements with external accountants.
- NOTE: Candidates who advance through the hiring process will be required to submit a current Certificate of Conduct and Driver's abstract.
