This position assists the Bridge Design Engineer with reviewing plans and maintains the Bridge Design Manual. Duties include, but are not limited to reviewing structure layouts for conformance to hydraulic or other applicable criteria; participating in site investigations, providing guidance with respect to South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) practices; reviewing structural design, check design and load rating calculations for conformance to American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) specifications, SDDOT practices and structural engineering theory and practice; reviewing plans for highway and structure construction for conformance to design intent; providing review comments to designers and plans preparers for nonconforming issues; ensuring that review comments are incorporated into construction plans, and; assisting with preparation and maintenance of a Bridge Design Manual.
The incumbent will typically work in an office environment with eight-hour work days Monday - Friday. Some in-state travel is required for structure site inspections with occasional overnight stays as necessary for long distance and/or multi-day work trips.

Applicants should possess or be eligible to obtain a Professional Engineering License. Successful candidate will be required to obtain Professional Engineering when he/she becomes eligible.
