In collaboration with the Manager of Clinical Operations, manages patient care delivery to optimize patient outcomes, customer satisfaction and efficient resource management.
  • Oversees staffing and scheduling, in collaboration with Manager of Clinical Operations. Assures cost-effective methodology.
  • Supports research based nursing by encouraging an environment that utilizes research in practice and decision making.
  • Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.
  • Ensures appropriateness and competencies of supplemental staff.
  • Participates in interviewing, competency assessments of staff, and provides input to performance reviews of staff.
  • Communicates changes in nursing practice and ensures changes are incorporated in unit processes.
  • Monitors and evaluates unit compliance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • May assume responsibility in the absence of the Manager of Clinical Operations, in conjunction with the Clinical Director and the designated Manager of Clinical Operations.
  • Collaborates with care management and medical staff in relation to appropriateness of care
  • Supports the development of the plan of care through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Monitors customer satisfaction and the Advocate Experience in collaboration with the Manager of Clinical Operations, shares results with staff, and assists in the development and implementation of targeted action plans.
  • Monitors associate satisfaction in collaboration with the Manager of Clinical Operations, participates in developing and implementing improvement initiatives, and addresses issues or concerns to assure resolution.


Collaborates with the Manager of Clinical Operations, medical director, and others in developing the strategic plan and direction for the unit. Practices the principles of performance improvement.
  • In conjunction with Manager of Clinical Operations, participates in short and long range planning for the unit
  • May identify topic for and/or assist in the implementation of research process. Provides relevant education at the unit level
  • Identifies and participate in PI projects
  • Implements monitoring systems defined for the unit to evaluate quality and adequacy of patient care. Implements measures to correct deficiencies
  • Communicates results of monitoring of patient care to clinical manager and other health care team members as appropriate


Promotion and support of an environment that is conducive to staff growth and development and autonomy
  • Implements, monitors and evaluates a unit-specific orientation program in conjunction with the Manager of Clinical Operations and the Advance Practice Nurse.
  • Provides for competency based education for staff in collaboration with the Professional Development Department, the Advance Practice Nurse, and Manager of Clinical Operations.
  • Fosters ongoing professional development of staff by assisting with performance, assessment of needs and assisting individuals with identification of professional goals
  • Promotes participation in educational opportunities
  • Coaches, monitors, and evaluates the performance of unit-based preceptor
  • Supports the transition of the RN Residents into a professional role and ensures ongoing nurse resident development.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to staff.


Performance of the principle duties and responsibilities of the RN position and serves as a role model for professional practice
  • Evaluates environmental safety and provides an environment that is safe based on age and developmental status care
  • Maintains unit, hospital and management based competencies
  • Demonstrates appropriate psychosocial intervention based on age and developmental status
  • Provides direct patient care as needed


Responsibility for professional growth and development
  • Keeps abreast of current standards of care via literature, education events, internal and external resources and networking
  • Participates in activities to enhance professional growth, such as involvement in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Completes required contact hours based on FTE status, within appropriate time frame.


Licensure:
  • Nurse, Registered (RN)


Education/Experience Required:
  • BS in Nursing or BSN plus 3-4 years clinical experience, and experience as a charge nurse (1 year).


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Strong clinical skills Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse work group Utilization of critical thinking in timely decision making
  • Current RN licensure in Illinois Demonstrated leadership experience


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work within a rapidly changing environment Ability to work collaboratively with internal/external customers May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases Ability to demonstrate a commitment to patient care Ability to prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints and in difficult situations. Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients (up to 50 lbs. may be required) Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays Ability to transport objects from one location to another This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Pay Range
$43.30 - $64.95
