We have now completed our pivotal clinical study, and our focus is on regulatory approvals and commercial launch. This is an exciting and significant milestone in our journey to bring this ground-breaking technology to patients.

We are seeking a Human Factors Analyst to help drive assessment, product design, and usability improvements by supporting human factors-related design and development activities. You will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary engineering team, working across the clinical, software, mechanical, and risk management domains. You will become a system-level domain expert, and your daily activities will center around facilitating human factors testing of our medical device in pre-clinical and clinical settings, user research, and human factors analysis. You will use your human factors expertise and focus on safety and usability to inform product design decisions and to generate validation evidence to support regulatory submissions.

Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.

Meaningful work you will be a part of

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Plan and execute formative and summative usability tests (human factors validation tests) to meet FDA and IEC regulatory requirements.
  • Draft Human Factors documents such as Test Protocols, Human Factors Engineering Reports, and Usability Engineering Files.
  • Conduct formal and informal hardware and software usability testing as input to the design and development process.
  • Use your knowledge of Human Factors Analysis techniques to interpret user needs, understand use errors, and assess risk impact.
  • Conduct human factors research with end users including physicians, electrophysiology lab staff, and other healthcare workers.
  • Provide expert usability input to design decisions based on user research and analysis.

You will be successful in this role because you possess these attributes:
  • BS/BA or MSc in Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Cognitive Science, Psychology, Industrial Design, Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience with Human Factors Engineering /Usability activities and best practices.
  • Experience conducting summative usability testing (Human Factors validation testing) to support FDA or IEC regulatory submissions is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with human factors analysis methods, such as contextual inquiry, task analysis, task flow analysis, root cause analysis, heuristic usability reviews, use related risk analysis, and residual risk analysis.
  • Experience planning and executing formal and informal usability testing of hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with User Centered User Interface design processes.
  • Experience working in safety critical industries in regulated environments is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Human Factors Engineering standards such as IEC 62366, FDA Human Factors Guidance, or Human Factors design standards from other safety critical industries.

Compensation

Kardium has listed the total cash compensation range (base salary + 5% RRSP contribution) that we expect to pay applicants for this role, as of the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. For candidates with more or less experience than listed above, the pay range will be adjusted.

As a permanent employee, you will also participate in Kardium's stock option plan.
  • $102,000 - $132,000 (CAD Annually)
