The team member we are searching for:
Develops specialized training programs or educational course content for paramedic students, presents this content in a formal learning situation, supervises its application in a clinical setting, and evaluates effectiveness of the training in achieving predetermined training objectives.
Essential Job Functions
Identifies and analyzes, on an ongoing basis, the training needs of paramedic students in the paramedic training program.
Plans and develops educational/training modules and course content, structures group and individual educational sessions, incorporating teaching methodology designed to meet identified needs and established course objectives.
Conducts formal didactic training and clinical instruction for paramedic students.
Provides skill laboratory instruction which includes skill demonstration, assessment, and evaluation of paramedic students.
Plans, supervises, and evaluates student performance in applying medical knowledge in a clinical setting, and performance of critical skills of medical procedures.
Plans, develops, and implements the use of evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of the training, course content, or methodology.
Participates in studies and projects to improve course or curriculum content, identifies trends for improvement, and prepares reports of findings.

Requirements
Requirements to Qualify:

Option I:

Bachelor's degree* -AND- two (2) years of experience in the practice of emergency medicine** or prehospital care*** - AND- forty (40) hours of instruction in teaching methodology****.
Option II:

Associate degree* -AND-six (6) years of experience in the practice of emergency medicine** or prehospital care***- AND- forty (40) hours of instruction in teaching methodology****.
License:

A license to practice as a paramedic issued by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority.
Required license(s) needs to be active and unrestricted, or your application will NOT be accepted.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS III - Moderate:

This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
No out of class experience or withholds are allowed for this examination. Required experience must be fully met at the time of filing and clearly indicated on the application.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Additional credit will be given to applicants that possess the following desirable qualifications:

  • Any additional experience in excess of the Minimum Requirement for the qualifying Option.
  • Recent employment within the last 5 years as a paramedic in a 9-1-1 setting*****.

**Practice of emergency medicine involves the immediate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with acute illnesses or injuries that require prompt medical attention, encompassing both pre-hospital and in-hospital settings.

***Practice of emergency prehospital care involves providing medical care to patients in the out-of-hospital environment, from the scene of an incident until they reach a hospital, focusing on stabilizing and transporting patients.

****To receive credit for your forty (40) hours of instruction in teaching methodology, include a legible copy of your certificate of completion of the course at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days of filing your application online.

*****Experience within the last 5 years as a paramedic in a 9-1-1 setting is defined as having advanced medical care to patients in emergency situations, before they reach a hospital. This involves responding to emergency calls, assessing, and stabilizing patients, and transporting them to the most appropriate medical facility.

Additional Information
EXAMINATION CONTENT:

This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information, education, desirable qualifications, and supplemental questionnaire weighted at 100%.
The passing score for the assessment is 70%.
ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:

The list of successful candidates created from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
No person may participate in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.
