Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking qualified candidates to fill three (3) Associate Engineer positions for the Treatment Plant Program Section of the Capital Projects Division. (One permanent position and two limited duration positions which are expected to last from three to five years.) These positions will perform responsible, professional engineering work in planning, designing, and the construction of the District's wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, and facilities. Duties include project management during design and construction projects and supervisory duties in the operation of an assigned District function.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Five years of experience in professional engineering, preferably in District engineering projects.
Education:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in engineering or a closely related field.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a professional engineer issued by the State of California.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License. A valid out-of-state driver's license will be accepted during the application process. Must possess a valid California Driver's License within 90 days of appointment.
SELECTION PROCEDURE

The list is valid for six months and may be extended up to an additional six months at the request of the hiring department. The list may be used to fill future positions including limited duration positions in the classification.

Successful candidates not currently employed in regular status by the District must pass a pre-employment physical examination to be considered for appointment.

Retirement:
District employees are members of the Contra Costa County Employees' Retirement Association (CCCERA) with reciprocity to CalPERS.
A retirement benefit is based upon a formula which includes the employee's age, salary, and years of service. The formula for new employees is 2%@ 62 unless reciprocity is established with an eligible retirement system. The formula for new employees with reciprocity is 2%@ 55.

The District does not participate in the Social Security System except for a mandatory Medicare contribution. Instead, the District contributes to a 401(a) Money Purchase plan an amount equivalent to the employer portion of contributions to the Social Security System (currently 6.2%) in addition to salary. The District also offers employees an optional Deferred Compensation 457 plan with a choice of savings and investment options.
Cafeteria Plan:
Mid-management and confidential employees are allowed $220 each month toward the selection of additional benefits.

- In-depth knowledge of design and construction as it relates to the wastewater industry.

- Understanding of the regulatory environment for water, air, energy, and solids for wastewater treatment facilities.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Supervising the preparation of plans, contract documents, and specifications for a variety of District engineering projects involving the wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, and related facilities.
- Negotiating and administering contracts for a variety of routine and complex consulting projects, scheduling and approving progress payments, and monitoring and reviewing progress.
- Reviewing and managing multiple projects, interpreting regulations, balancing District priorities and objectives, and analyzing and resolving complex problems.
- Supervising professional engineering and technical staff, assigning and reviewing work, conducting performance evaluations, and mentoring and developing subordinate staff.
- Preparing, reviewing, and making recommendations on technical studies and reports.
- Preparing and reviewing cost estimates and engineering calculations.
