Primary Purpose

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

A qualified attorney, preferably with regulatory experience, to handle complex regulatory litigation matters on behalf of the Company

Primary Duties

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Performs as a specialist in regulatory litigation and administrative law, including ratemaking, provides technical and expert legal services to ComEd, and has strong comprehension of the electric utility business. Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters that may have a major bearing on the conduct of ComEd's business; evaluates both legal and business risks and regulatory viability of strategic initiatives and advises clients accordingly.
    Interprets and applies organization policy according to law. Represents ComEd before the Illinois Commerce Commission and other state proceedings and/or relevant litigation.
  • Prepares and manages, budgets for all matters. involving outside counsel and manages outside counsel engagement.
  • Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff.
  • Projects / duties as assigned.

  • Leads the ongoing management of relationships and regulatory litigation matters on behalf of ComEd, including internal clients, outside counsel, external stakeholders and state regulators.
  • Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business context.
  • Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs or actions.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions. At least 7 to 10 years of professional experience in a specialized area of law. Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the legal field to the completion of complex assignments. Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and on ongoing knowledge of federal or state law. Must have the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in administrative litigation including appearing before administrative law judges and preparing and presenting pre-filed testimony.

Experience with regulatory processes, including working collaboratively in workshops and through stakeholder outreach.

Experience working with technical experts to prepare and present written and oral testimony in contested proceedings.

Strong legal writing experience, including motions practice and drafting pleadings on technical subjects incorporating complex fact patterns into issues of law in a manner accessible to non-experts.

Experience managing ratemaking cases and/or appellate proceedings.
