Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Director- Security Technical Data Fellow to join our ISRM team located in Raritan. This role is open for applicants based anywhere in the US.

Do you enjoy solving complex, high-stakes security problems with data? Are you motivated by the idea of architecting resilient data systems that process and analyze very large data in real-time from sources across the globe while ensuring airtight security? We're looking for a Security Technical Data Fellow-someone who blends curiosity, creativity, and technical expertise to create scalable systems that meet the challenges of modern, distributed data needs.

This isn't a role where you'll be confined to predefined tools or stuck in rigid processes. We need you to flex your skills in designing systems that adapt, grow and are future resilient, while building in the security, speed, and reliability required for dynamic, global operations need of innovative data driven security organization.

Your work will anchor our ability to turn raw, high-velocity data streams into actionable insights-securely, efficiently, and without compromise. Reach for solutions beyond the usual defaults and be ready to explore new ways to take on big data challenges.

What You'll Do

1. Architect Future-Ready Data Pipelines
  • Design and refine systems for real-time and batch data processing that work seamlessly, no matter what kind of data or where it's coming from.
  • Explore flexible tools and approaches-whether that's event-driven architectures, cloud-native systems, or emerging open-source solutions-to meet challenges head-on.
  • Keep the system simple where it can be and robust where it needs to be, ensuring its user-friendly while scaling to handle increasing complexity.
  • Work across environments (cloud, hybrid, on-prem) without locking into one platform or approach.

2. Make Real-Time Analytics Possible
  • Build architectures that don't bottleneck, empowering teams to extract and act on insights in real-time.
  • Support analytic workflows that combine automation, AI, and human intuition-ensuring systems are responsive, accurate, and secure.
  • Create a foundation for data visualizations, dashboards, and alerts that help teams make intelligent decisions faster and easier.

3. Ensure Security is a Core Principle
  • Integrate security directly into every layer of the system-think secure APIs, dynamic masking, encryption, and zero-trust frameworks.
  • Solve for compliance across international standards (e.g., GDPR or CCPA) without turning it into a barrier for system performance or collaboration.
  • Develop proactive security measures that stay flexible enough to anticipate vulnerabilities without creating choke points for data flow.

4. Collaborate and Experiment
  • Work alongside engineers, analysts, and business teams-not as a "gatekeeper," but as an enabler who makes their work smoother and faster.
  • Share ideas openly, listen to input, and adapt solutions collaboratively as new challenges emerge.
  • Mentor teammates on secure data workflows and resilient architectures, creating a shared culture of experimentation rather than rigid processes.

5. Think Beyond Today
  • Explore emerging concepts like data mesh, real-time edge processing, or distributed inference for AI, bringing fresh ideas to how data systems are designed.
  • Push for sustainability and efficiency in systems-architecting with adaptability and future possibilities in mind, not just immediate needs.
  • Stay open-minded about tools and frameworks, adapting to what works best for the situation rather than defaulting to familiar technologies.

What You Bring to the Table

Skills and Experience:
  • Solid experience building secure, distributed data systems-whether you gained it through formal education, hands-on work, or side projects that blew people away.
  • A deep understanding of handling real-time and batch data at scale: whether that's stream processing (e.g., Kafka, Flink, or similar), workflow orchestration, or designing efficient pipelines.
  • Fluent in security principles-like encryption, access control, API security-and skilled enough to embed them naturally into all layers of the system while keeping things user-friendly.
  • You're familiar with multi-cloud environments or hybrid setups, but you're not married to anyone "stack." You focus on adaptability over rigidity.
  • You know how to solve and optimize distributed systems without getting caught in overcomplicated solutions.

What Sets You Apart:
  • You're comfortable considering alternatives to mainstream tools-you assess technology based on fit rather than trends.
  • You find joy in experimenting with emerging ideas, like AI-driven anomaly detection, edge computing, or decentralized data architectures.
  • You've worked across diverse environments before: integrating data from IoT devices, APIs, databases, or other complex systems.
  • You're excited about solving new problems rather than repeating old solutions, and you're proactive about using technology to make things easier, not harder.

Why This Role is Unique

We're not about rigid hierarchies or buzzwords. In this role, you'll have the freedom to invent, iterate, and create systems that truly work-not just function. You'll help shape how secure data systems handle huge, fast-changing workloads and influence how advanced analytics can adapt to modern needs.

We value openness, curiosity, and collaboration as much as technical excellence. This means you'll have room to test ideas, explore alternatives, and directly shape substantial solutions without being boxed into overly corporate processes.

By joining us as a Security Technical Data Fellow, you'll be driving change at the intersection of security, data, and technology-all while working alongside a team that values experimentation just as much as delivering results.

  • Implements strategic goals, as determined by executive leaders, that have a direct impact on Security & Controls project results and security system integrations.
  • Utilizes reverse engineering techniques to conduct in-depth vulnerability assessments to drive progress toward the organization's overall technology and security strategy.
  • Advises management of identified malware and intrusion issues and develops action plans that address security risks.
  • Evaluates current security systems and networks and conducts root cause analysis investigations that pinpoint intrusions to formulate methods for improving Security & Controls processes.
  • Devises conceptual security frameworks and system configuration designs with corresponding project definitions, budgets, resource requirement estimates, and success criteria for initiatives that aim to protect technology assets and ensure organizational network security.
  • Publishes technical reports, technical memoranda, and other documents that provide employees and business partners with information regarding newly implemented security controls and operational practices to mitigate intrusion risks and cybersecurity threats.
  • Guides other colleagues through consultation, mentoring, and collaborative leadership to build depth of capability, and provides functional (matrix) supervision.
  • Proactively creates a purpose driven environment by aligning Johnson & Johnson's Credo and Leadership Imperatives with the strategies and goals of the team and enterprise.
