Astrion, through the JETTS2 contract, is looking for a talented Systems Engineering Team Lead to support NASA's Gateway Program - a vital outpost orbiting the Moon that will enable sustainable human presence in deep space at the Johnson Space Center in Houston Texas!
As part of our team, you'll lead the development of the Wireless Access Point (WAP) system - the communications backbone for onboard Gateway systems.
What You'll Be Doing:
As the System Engineering Team Lead for the Gateway Wireless Access Point (WAP), you will take ownership of the systems engineering life cycle for a critical piece of Gateway infrastructure. This includes planning, designing, verifying, and integrating the system - and guiding a collaborative team through mission-defining decisions.

What You'll Be Doing:
As the System Engineering Team Lead for the Gateway Wireless Access Point (WAP), you will take ownership of the systems engineering life cycle for a critical piece of Gateway infrastructure. This includes planning, designing, verifying, and integrating the system - and guiding a collaborative team through mission-defining decisions.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Lead all systems engineering activities for the Gateway WAP system
- Manage project schedule, technical documentation, procurement coordination, and budget oversight
- Develop and maintain system requirements, verification plans, and interface control documents
- Drive the architecture, integration, and validation of wireless communications systems for Gateway
- Ensure all work aligns with NASA's engineering and safety standards, including flight hardware development and testing
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure design compatibility and operational excellence
- Support test campaigns (ground and flight), ensure accurate documentation, and validate performance
- Facilitate design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and provide leadership throughout the product life cycle
- Assess risk, lead trade studies, and ensure engineering solutions are robust, reliable, and ready for space
- Present status, updates, and technical decisions to NASA customers and stakeholders
- Help shape the vision and success of a small but mighty systems engineering team
What You Bring to the Mission:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field)
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering
- Deep understanding of SE&I processes, tools, and methodologies (Model-Based SE experience a plus)
- Experience with mechanical/electrical spaceflight systems, verification/test planning, and life cycle documentation
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced, team-driven environment
- Must be available to work onsite at NASA's B44 facility (situational telework allowed)
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with NASA systems engineering and flight certification processes
- Experience with DOORS Next Generation or similar requirements management tools
- Prior experience with flight hardware or spaceflight system integration
- Knowledge of wireless systems, spacecraft interfaces, or communications infrastructure
