Starting salary range: $84,712.56 - $134,411.78 annually.
Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the College. Primary Function
The Assistant Professor/DRC Counselor will be primarily responsible for providing academic, career, personal, and disability management counseling services to students with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under 1) through 4):
Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling. A Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling; AND either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, OR completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, OR two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: A Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling; AND possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); AND either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, OR completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, OR two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in 1) through 3) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application.

- Experience in teaching/learning assistive technology, personal growth, learning strategies, career development courses/workshops.

Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to the counseling responsibilities, other duties and institutional responsibilities include maintaining regular office hours, developing curriculum, program review and planning, developing and assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in department activities and college governance. Related duties include the following, but are not limited to:
- Provide academic, career, personal and disability management counseling to students with disabilities.
- Conduct initial intake interview and analysis of verification of disability documentation to determine eligibility for services.
- Develop student authorized academic accommodation plan, individual personal and academic counseling and educational planning, group presentations, and instruction.
- Authorize academic accommodations required by the ADA, Section 504, Section 508 and other federal and state mandates.
- Prepare written reports, maintain accurate documentation of all services and contacts and maintain confidential student records in compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Conduct disability awareness trainings and consultation to college faculty and classified professionals.
- Work collaboratively with other college staff, faculty, administration, community agencies, and other education institutions.
- Participate in college and division governance assignments and other departmental responsibilities as required.
- Participate in the development and revision of curriculum, program evaluation, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Maintain current knowledge in the subject-matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies.
- Engage in a wide range of communication systems such as Zoom, in-person, phone, email, videophone, etc. in counseling sessions.
- Use a wide range of delivery systems, individualized instruction, workshops, lectures, lecture/lab, and other alternatives.
- Support and train faculty on 508 compliance and universal design for learning.
- Provide advocacy and liaison services for students with disabilities to staff and campus and community resources.
- Evaluate disability verification documentation from outside sources and from internal learning disability assessments.
- Determine educational limitations establishing the need for and facilitate provision of disability-related accommodations and services.
- Keep current with the Palomar College curricula as well articulation and transfer requirements for other colleges and universities.
- Participate in departmental and campus-wide student retention and student outreach efforts.
- Organize Access Technology Center (ATC) instruction and services; provide training and instruction in the areas of assistive technology and learning strategies; provide work direction to the ATC work study, interns, and hourly employees.
- Perform other duties in the DRC Department related to student access and success.
- Performing other duties as required.

- This is a full-time, 11 months per year, tenure-track position. This position is specially-funded and will be supported with general funds should the categorical funds be reduced or eliminated.
- Counseling assignments will include day, evening, and/or weekend classes at the San Marcos campus and/or off-campus locations as part of contract responsibilities, as well as distance education classes. Full-time faculty are expected to participate fully in departmental activities and college governance and hold regular office hours.
- The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements: live scan/fingerprinting, official transcript(s), TB risk assessment, employment verification(s) and COVID-19 vaccination verification (or medical/religious exemption).
