Your Impact
Business Development:
- Identify potential new markets and client segments within Michigan and the region.
- Monitor local and regional construction projects for potential opportunities.
- Network with industry professionals at conferences, events, and through professional associations.
- Conduct client presentations to showcase company capabilities and value proposition.
- Gather project opportunities requirements and develop, with others, comprehensive proposals, including pricing and project timelines.
- Collaborate with internal teams like estimating, design, and project management to ensure accurate proposal details.
- Support contact negotiations with clients to reach mutually beneficial agreements.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with existing clients to foster repeat business and referrals.
Pre-construction phase:
- Assist in site selection and feasibility analysis
- Conduct constructability reviews of design documents
- Provide cost estimating and budget development
- Help with bid package preparation and contractor selection
- Coordinate with railroad operators, engineers, and other consultants
Construction phase:
- Monitor project progress against schedule and budget
- Identify and manage potential risks
- Review change orders and recommend approvals
- Oversee quality control and safety compliance
- Reviews project activities with client and contractor's field supervision resolving disputes and other daily issues
- Oversees materials testing activities
- Reviews daily inspection reports and other project documentation
- Facilitate communication between the owner, design team, railroad operators, and contractors
- Conduct regular site visits and progress meetings
- Analyze project data to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Provide recommendations for project adjustments as needed
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience
- 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior transit and rail experience.
- A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents
- Deep understanding of construction practices, building codes, and project delivery methods
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Working knowledge of Michigan DOT, FRA, FTA, AREMA, and other rail regulatory standards and procedures, codes, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Proven experience in construction management, preferably with a focus on owner representation
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT (Engineer in Training) Certification
- Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred
- Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired
