Position Overview

As a DevOps Developer III in the Software Process & Quality team of our Software Engineering department, you will create, improve, and maintain our build automation tools and infrastructure, instrumentation hooks, and other related tools needed to ensure software functionality and quality of our complex medical ultrasound device products. These works will be consumed by you, your DevOps and Software Development peers, and your Software Tester counterparts to deliver build and test results and reporting that fulfills our software test plans, verification procedures, and the overall software and system specifications. The DevOps Engineer will support the DevOps Lead to ensure reliable nightly automation runs in Jenkins against devices in our department's Continuous Test Lab, as well as supporting local runs on developer/tester workstations. Demonstrated technical leadership in software tools and quality within Scrum/Agile teams is required. The ability to interact with cross-department counterparts and adjacent professionals from other engineering sectors is critical.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop and maintain software build jobs and tools in the team's Jenkins build system, enhance continuous integration efforts, support binary deployments to internal release channels, and release to the downstream Software Verification & Validation department.
  • Improve our DevOps toolchain support for automation written by our developers and testers, to better configure and capture telemetry on our test lab ultrasound products (such as settings, connectivity, and manufacturing hooks), with robust recovery and logging when tests or frameworks encounter problems during test setup and execution.
  • Propose, enhance, and maintain test framework and software instrumentation hooks for our new and existing medical device products, by developing within a pure Ruby script test harness, over a mix of standard and proprietary protocols and models, to leverage C#/XAML and C++/CLI test hooks embedded within the products.
  • Consult with developers, testers, and product development peers to ensure test plans properly evaluate interface, operational, and performance requirements of the overall system
  • Enable DevOps with tools to aid Jenkins builds, continuous integration, deployment, and release to the downstream Software Verification & Validation department.
  • Support and improve internal applications and services running on both Windows and Linux platforms, with security, visibility and efficient maintenance as a design priority.
  • Design toolchains to reliably capture automated results and produce traceable reports that describe the required evaluations, their results, and any follow-on corrections, to fulfill regulatory evidence requirements.
  • Review past results/risks and improve coverage in future automated regression suites.
  • Be a model adherent to our design methodologies, coding guidelines, documentation processes, and the V-model software life cycle, to fulfill IEC 62304 requirements.
  • Guide the Dev teams in adopting iterative coding efforts across teams, repos, branches, and releases using agreed features/integrations of GIT source control management.

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent technical Certification; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4-6 years of experience in Software Development.
  • 1-2 years of experience in Computer Systems Engineering, or Software Testing and Quality Control.
  • Proficiency with scripting; writing and executing test scripts.
  • Experience working in a team-based Agile environment (preferably Scrum) with evolving requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • High level of initiative with ability to self-manage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with development in a regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with medical regulations like IEC 62304.
  • Experience with a test code framework such as minitest, xUnit, JUnit, Googletest, PyTest.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs with or without accommodations.

Salary and Benefits:
  • $105,000.00 - $140,000.00/year + variable bonus opportunity (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
