The selected candidate will work under the direction of the Engineering Manager and supervise two internal team members while guiding a broader group of seven technicians and builders within the department.

Summary:
A well-established manufacturing firm in the Wichita vicinity is looking to add an experienced automation engineer to its engineering division. This role blends hands-on controls development with team oversight and project execution. The selected candidate will work under the direction of the Engineering Manager and supervise two internal team members while guiding a broader group of seven technicians and builders within the department.
Core Responsibilities:
- Draft and develop electrical schematics and control panel diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical
- Prepare part lists and material requirements for electrical systems
- Build, configure, and deploy programs for PLCs, operator interfaces, and variable frequency drives
- Coordinate project schedules and milestones, ensuring timely completion of deliverables
- Assist with equipment diagnostics and issue resolution during production and post-installation
- Provide direction and leadership to the in-house controls and panel assembly team
- Collaborate with design engineers to ensure automation aligns with mechanical system intent
- Participate in innovation and design improvement initiatives
- Travel may be required several times per year for system setup and commissioning at client facilities
Ideal Background:
- Degree in an engineering discipline related to electrical or automation systems
- A minimum of 5 years working with automated machinery in an industrial setting
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, and strong experience writing and testing automation logic
- Ability to lead projects independently and guide others in a team setting
- Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and support
Additional Considerations:
- Exposure to safety standards and practices in industrial automation
- Understanding of lean principles is a plus
- Experience in a client-facing or commissioning environment preferred
