Structural Bridge Engineering Manager

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Bridge Engineering Manager to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience overseeing structural design projects, ensure compliance with industry standards, and lead a team of engineers to deliver innovative and efficient structural solutions. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and excellent communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, build, and grow a bridge engineering department.
  • Responsible for the structural design of bridges and ancillary transportation structures for TxDot and municipal clients.
  • Coordinate various project activities with project team including geotechnical investigation, hydrology and hydraulics, environment reports and permitting, survey and roadway design.
  • Provide professional and technical support to multiple Westwood projects.
  • Provided day-to-day support and input to internal and external project managers.
  • Communicate project details with clients, agencies and the public.
  • Mentor, train and/or supervise the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and standards.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to assess project progress and ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to meet client expectations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and technologies to incorporate innovative practices into designs.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and proposals to clients and stakeholders.


Required Skills

  • Bridge inspection experience a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiar with TxDOT Bridge Manual and Facilities Development Manual.
  • Familiar with AASHTO LRFD design code.
  • Working knowledge of Microstation or AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with bridge engineering software, such as Leap Bridge, Eriksson or similar
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and check the quality of own and others' work.
  • Ability to use sound engineering judgment.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Travel may be needed on an occasional basis.


Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on Bridge and ancillary transportation structures for TxDot and municipal clients.
