Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (SRA) Program Manager, Global Innovation

The SRA Program Manager role is a global and dynamic role focused on fostering innovation within Mars Snacking North America by guiding and managing regulatory strategies that support the development and commercialization of 'new to Mars' products. This role will leverage a deep understanding of how and when to apply regulatory requirements to innovation projects for the translation of risk assessment and investment timelines.

This technical leader role will guide and manage a variety of regulatory activities related to finished products, labelling, and claims for agile innovation projects targeted for the North America business unit, while contributing to the development of Global SRA strategies. This position proactively partners with a wide range of cross-functional stakeholders and Regional SRA experts to assess regulatory feasibility of new innovation and works to bring solutions to the table to enable value creation while ensuring compliance.

What are we looking for?
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a technical area, such as food chemistry, nutrition, food science, biology, chemistry, or toxicology. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in scientific and/or regulatory compliance/affairs and/or a related technical area with food products or related product categories (such as food supplements, cosmetics, and natural health products) with proficiency in food law, nutrition policy, and regulatory affairs for North America.
  • Experience working on large-scale regulatory affairs or regulatory compliance projects involving formulas, ingredients, claims and labelling; a demonstrated track record of working successfully across functions to achieve shared goals; proven ability to interact cross-functionally at all levels within the organization are required; proven drive for results with an ability to work independently


What will be your key responsibilities?
  • Serves as the SRA lead and primary point of contact for global agile innovation business stakeholders for activities focused on N. America business unit
  • Leads Governance Risk Forum for all global innovation projects targeted for N. America in partnership with Mars governance functions (Legal, Q&FS, H&W, IP/Trademarks, Responsible Marketing)
  • Provides early stage scientific and regulatory guidance for claims, ingredient, recipe and labelling, bringing solutions in addition to risk assessments.
  • Drives regulatory strategies for route to market for new innovations, working with external experts where needed for 'new to Mars' categories or channels
  • Guides and manages compliance activities for test-and-learn launches to ensure that ingredients, claims, product and labelling are compliant with relevant regulations; partners with regional SRA teams to support assessments and project scale-up
  • Develops business tools for articulation of regulatory criteria for product commercialization, utilizing a multi-dimensional approach by leveraging risk assessment, external landscape, time & capital investment needed for product readiness- working through both an internal and external network of experts
  • Executes workstreams for aligning ways of working with stakeholders, building internal & external capabilities, grounding stakeholders with basic regulatory knowledge, and establishing processes to enable speed and agility when partnering with the business for innovation
  • Monitors industry trends and headwinds/tailwinds via literature reviews, conference attendance, or participation in professional associations, manages technical impact assessments and translates them into risk mitigating actions or business opportunities for SRA-driven value creation
  • Work with relevant technical teams (e.g. Science & Technology, Corporate Affairs, Product Development) on global scale 'Freedom to Operate', Value Leadership, Supply Resilience initiatives by providing regulatory guidance for project execution

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position mayalso include other elements, if eligible, including variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Eligibility for these additional elements depend on the position offered and the employee's work schedule (i.e., part-time schedule, store associate). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
