The Opportunity

This role blends data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence to enhance many areas of the business, and primarily customer engagement, loyalty programs, merchandising, and marketing effectiveness. Reporting to the Manager of Data and Analytics, with strategic direction from the Growth & Loyalty Director, you will build data-driven solutions that improve decision-making insights, support membership expansion and retention, and optimize targeted promotions. You will also play a key role in data integration projects, ensuring seamless collaboration between technical teams and other business stakeholders.

Location: This is a hybrid role based out of MEC Head Office in Vancouver, requiring you to be in office 2 to 3 days a week.

Marketing & Loyalty Analytics
  • Support Growth & Loyalty Marketing - Provide data-driven insights for membership expansion, retention, referral incentives, and key growth projects.
  • Develop & Refine Loyalty Metrics - Define and maintain key metrics such as tenure cohorts, redemption rates, churn risk, CAC, LTV, purchase frequency, etc.
  • Analyze Member Behavior - Identify patterns across product categories (e.g., camping, hiking, cycling, climbing) to enhance loyalty program effectiveness.
  • Consolidate Retention Data - Integrate insights from CRM, acquisition, and email marketing tools (e.g., Klaviyo, BigCommerce, D365) to refine retention and re-engagement strategies.
  • Merchandising & Business Insights - Translate member behavior insights into opportunities for product development and merchandising.
  • Strategic Recommendations - Collaborate with the Growth & Loyalty Director to develop data-driven strategies for tier-based benefits, personalized engagement, and promotions.

Data Engineering & Business Intelligence
  • Requirements Gathering & Business Process Optimization - Work with stakeholders to document and analyze business needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Bridge the gap between business and technical teams to ensure seamless data integration.
  • Best Practices & Cost Control - Establish data engineering best practices and optimize cloud-based solutions for cost efficiency.
  • Technical Solution Development - Design, build, maintain, deploy, test, and troubleshoot data pipelines and transformations.
  • Azure Cloud-Based Data Engineering - Develop data warehouse components to support extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes.
  • Technical Leadership - Provide coaching, mentoring, and data guidance across the organization.

The Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience working with a omnichannel retail loyalty program as a Data Engineer or Data Analyst
  • 2-5 years of hands-on SQL and/or DAX experience is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with Entity Relational Diagrams, Data Flow Diagrams, and Architecture Diagrams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure stack, including:
  • Azure Storage
  • Azure Logic Apps
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Azure SQL Database
  • Azure Key Vault
  • Power BI Development
  • Proficiency in DAX, SQL, VBA, Python, and PowerShell is an asset.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and collaboration tools.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with teams, drive solutions, and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Post-secondary education in software development, engineering, business, or science is an asset.

The Compensation & Perks

This is an permanent role with an anticipated annual base salary range of $75,500 to $94,500. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate's relevant skills, experience, location, qualifications and internal equity. This role is eligible for our annual variable incentive plan.
