Afghan Community Peer Support Subject Matter Expert (SME)
We are seeking an Afghan Community Peer Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide strategic and technical leadership for a specialized program serving recently arrived Afghan refugees. The SME will guide the development and implementation of culturally responsive, trauma-informed peer support services that promote the holistic needs of Afghan individuals and families as they continue to rebuild their lives. This role includes providing expert guidance to multidisciplinary teams-comprising Peer Support Specialists, Intake Specialists, Social Workers, and Lead Social Workers-to ensure high-quality, coordinated service delivery that promotes client stability, resilience, and long-term integration.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Peer Support SME: $90,000
Pay commensurate with experience.

Afghan Community Peer Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) Responsibilities Include:
Lead the design, refinement, and implementation of peer support interventions tailored to the program parameters and the needs of Afghan refugee communities, with sensitivity to cultural, linguistic, and historical factors.
Provide subject matter expertise and leadership to multidisciplinary teams, supporting Peer Support Specialists, Intake Specialists, Social Workers, and Lead Social Workers through training, case consultations, mentoring, and coaching.
Support proposal development, reporting, and strategic planning as a technical lead in the peer support services domain.
Develop workflows, tools, and guidelines to support seamless collaboration and role clarity across the teams.
Promote trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally competent practices in all aspects of service delivery.
Conduct needs assessments and gap analyses to identify evolving service priorities and support resource allocation.
Serve as a thought partner in the development of case management models that integrate behavioral health, housing support, public benefits navigation, and community connection.
Support the creation of client-centered service plans that emphasize empowerment, dignity, self-determination, and self-sufficiency.
Liaise with community members and local partners-including healthcare providers, schools, housing agencies, workforce development entities, and legal aid-to strengthen referral networks and community integration pathways.
Monitor program implementation and outcomes, offering feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Afghan Community Peer Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
Strong case coordination, mentorship, and problem-solving skills. Must have 4 or more years of experience as a peer support specialist or experience in delivering or managing peer support programs.
2 or more years working with refugee and immigrant populations.
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to travel to Texas at least once per month during program period.
