Position Summary:

The Medical Director will also lead and mentor the medical team, offering treatment management, guidance, and prescribing medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards. Position Summary:

The Medical Director will also lead and mentor the medical team, offering treatment management, guidance, and prescribing medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards. The role requires strong leadership skills to foster collaboration, drive excellence, and ensure the highest quality of care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team including consulting with other appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Maintain an effective system of communication among the physicians and nurse practitioner through periodic in- person meetings, email and phone call communications.
- Follow-up and discuss any compliments or concerns with the physicians or nurse practitioners, related to their medical practice and overall performance which includes a report of any such compliments or concerns to the Executive Director, and to take necessary and appropriate steps to recognize such compliments or address such concerns.
- To the extent possible, make good faith efforts to lead the physicians and nurse practitioner team in planning for medical coverage for vacations, illnesses, transitions and succession planning.
- Participate in management, organizational or patient/referent meetings as Medical Director.
- Consult with the Nurse practitioners, doctors, nurses and clinical team members regarding patient care and progress.
- Providing ongoing client care utilizing the process of assessment, planning implementation and evaluation.
- Evaluate treatment referrals to ensure it contains all necessary information, such as patient demographics, medical history, and reason for referral.
- Prescribe and evaluate patient medications in accordance with statutory & regulatory standards.
- Requisition diagnostic services as the patient's condition warrants and conduct follow-up
- Maintaining current progress records on patients according to legal and ethical standards.
- Orientating, facilitating and reinforcing patient involvement in eating disorder treatment.
- Providing ongoing health teaching to patients about common health problems that co-occur with eating disorders.
- Communicate and collaborate with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care and prognosis.
- Support transition planning, including the home environment and alternate levels of care within the health care system.
- Assess and recognize population health trends; ability to plan and implement strategies for population-based prevention.
- Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to identify and respond appropriately to legal and ethical issues that may arise in patient care.
- Develop and implement evidence-based strategies to improve care and participate in creating and evaluating health care policies.
- Collaborate with clients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for clients, families, and communities
- Assume responsibility and accountability for own professional development, educational or consultative assistance.
- Participate in the medical on-call rotation with other Physicians & the Nurse Practitioner
- Designated facility custodian responsibilities relating to Privacy
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years working in mental health and addition field.
- Leadership experience considered an asset.
- The attending Physician/Medical Director is solely and exclusively responsible for ensuring that they hold a valid medical license
- Degree in Medicine and a license, in good standing to practice medicine within Canada
- Registration with CFPC or RCPSC
- Certification or fellowship in Addiction Medicine.
- Experience with opiate agonist therapy, including but not limited to the use of buprenorphine, methadone, Kadian.
- Must also maintain professional liability or indemnity insurance coverage and membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association, appropriate to the scope and nature of their practice.
