Piper Health & Sciences is seeking a Scientist I to support a molecular therapeutics research team at USAMRIID in Frederick, MD . (Note: This role requires the ability to obtain/maintain Secret Clearance and BPRP status in the United States.)

Responsibilities for the Scientist I include:
Conduct basic and translational research on bacterial and viral threats, supporting the BD and infectious disease program.
Plan, execute, and oversee in vitro/in vivo protocols to assess therapeutic tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy.
Investigate bacterial/viral pathogenesis, design vaccines/therapeutics, and evaluate immune responses, including cytokine and antibody levels.
Support high-throughput screening methods (i.e. Next-Generation Sequencing/NGS) for antibacterial/antiviral projects and innovate novel assays.
Construct and characterize mutant strains using in vitro/in vivo methods.
Present findings at lab meetings and scientific discussions. Write and submit progress reports monthly.
Ensure compliance, order supplies, train personnel, and mentor junior scientists.
Co-author proposals and solicit funding for mission-aligned objectives. Communicate with vendors for technical support.
Prepare reports, SOPs, manuscripts, and present research at conferences (1-2 annually).

Qualifications for the Scientist I include:
PhD in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Microbiology, Virology, or similar field is required.
Proven experience with high-throughput screening methods (particularly NGS) is required.
Expertise in bacterial/viral pathogenesis and mouse infection models is strongly preferred.
Work involves BSL-3/BSL-4 laboratories, requiring active BPRP enrollment.
Ability to obtain/maintain Secret Clearance in the United States.

Compensation for the Scientist I includes:
Compensation Range: approximately $80,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience
