POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs is responsible for researching, acquiring, and monitoring grants from public and private sources to help the College to achieve its strategic goals. The Director cultivates a culture of grant development and management within the college by educating college leadership and the broader campus community about current and prospective grants and their potential and by engaging colleagues in various aspects of the grant-seeking process. The Director leads effective grant planning and management activities to ensure strategic, data-driven, and compliant proposals.
As leader of the Grants and Sponsored Programs Department, the Director supervises department employees and develops and monitors annual department work plans and budgets. The Director oversees the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and ways of work that help ensure the college's compliance with all relevant rules, regulations, and funder requirements.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of grant compliance and management, including working knowledge of laws and regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance) governing the management and expenditure of federal and state funds.
Demonstrates exceptional written and oral communication skills and editing abilities.
Ability to independently and collaboratively research a variety of topics, conduct analysis, and identify trends affecting higher education and public and private funding.
Ability to think strategically and analytically and to synthesize ideas into a compelling proposal narrative.
Ability to work collaboratively with College counterparts to develop a grantmaking strategy consistent with the College's Master Plan and emerging funding trends.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize department objectives and responsibilities.
Ability to develop and manage grant and department budgets to achieve goals and objectives.
Ability to work well under pressure and to meet strict guidelines and deadlines while maintaining a sense of perspective and collegiality with all stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills and ability to work cooperatively with College leadership, faculty, staff, and funding agency personnel in designing mutually beneficial proposals and projects.
Independence, dependability, and conscientiousness, with self-imposed initiative and motivation.
Proficiency with computer technology and software such as the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSManage every phase of the grant development process from prospecting through concept development, grant writing, and timely submission of grant proposals that advance the College's strategic goals.
Lead strategic planning for grants and maintain campus-wide grants presence to increase awareness and understanding of and participation in grant-funded projects.
Identify funding sources with reasonable likelihood of supporting current and planned College initiatives and work to encourage interest among faculty members, administrators, and staff members in applying for these funds.
Manage grant proposal teams; develop, coordinate, and manage grant proposal development and writing; review and edit proposal drafts; ensure proposal review and approval Richland Leadership Team as appropriate; and arrange for submission of approved proposals.
Leads the pre-award compliance efforts, including developing and implementing internal compliance processes, communicating the components of the college Grants Compliance Agreement and providing grant management training to grant leaders and project personnel, and monitoring Uniform Guidance standards and applicable state, local, and Richland Community College policies.
Provides oversight for all college post-award functions including deliverables monitoring, budget monitoring, evaluation, training, compliance reporting, and assisting personnel leading grant projects as appropriate.
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of all College grants in the database; provide regular updates on available funding opportunities; monitor and provide periodic reports on grant submissions and awards to the Richland Leadership Team.
Develops and oversee the delivery of training to an internal college audience about the grant development processes, grants management, and compliance requirements.
Communicates with grantor program officers at federal, state and local agencies and private foundations regarding funding availability, eligibility, and proposal development questions.
Works collaboratively with other colleges, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
Manage Grants and Sponsored Programs Department operations and supervise staff. Develop, recommend, and monitor the Department budgets.
Lead the Grant Review Committee, serve on College committees and perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of Richland Community College.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required; Master's degree preferred. Five (5) years' experience in a full-time grant-writing position(s) with successful track record of securing and managing grants, including complex and highly technical grants and grants from federal funding sources. Supervisory experience preferred.
