About Globe Machine

For over a century, Globe Machine Manufacturing Company has been a global leader in providing custom-engineered factory solutions for industries including building products, pulp & paper, and advanced composites. Our solutions blend decades of proven mechanical performance with state-of-the-art automation, controls, and robotics, empowering manufacturers to optimize their operations and achieve maximum efficiency.

What You'll Do as a Controls Engineer

As a Controls Engineer at Globe, you will be a key member of our engineering team, responsible for designing and implementing control systems that power industrial machinery. You'll use your expertise to specify hardware, write PLC programs, and design electro-mechanical systems that enable clients to run their plants efficiently and reliably. This role combines engineering design, hands-on problem-solving, and cross-department collaboration to create systems that impact industries worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Analyze Control Systems: Review engineering sketches, specifications, and drawings to design control systems using electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion control components for manufacturing equipment.
  • PLC Programming & Automation: Program and configure PLC-based control systems for industrial machinery using software like Rockwell (RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk Studio) and Siemens (Step7, WinCC).
  • Field Commissioning & Troubleshooting: Travel to customer sites to field commission, install, and fine-tune equipment, ensuring systems meet performance and operational goals. Provide troubleshooting and system adjustments as needed.
  • Testing & Performance Analysis: Conduct rigorous tests on units and components to assess and improve system performance. Adjust designs based on testing results and data.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Author technical documentation including equipment manuals, process descriptions, and test results. Ensure end users have clear and accurate information for operating and maintaining systems.
  • Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with Globe's engineering, project management, and sales teams to ensure designs are feasible, meet customer needs, and align with Globe's capabilities.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You're an engineer at heart-someone who loves to solve complex problems and is passionate about creating systems that improve manufacturing processes. You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and are comfortable working with both internal teams and external customers. Your attention to detail and ability to translate technical requirements into working solutions make you the perfect fit for Globe's engineering team.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in designing and programming control systems for industrial machinery, particularly in manufacturing environments.
  • PLC Programming Expertise: Proficient in Rockwell (RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk Studio) and Siemens (Step7, WinCC) programming software.
  • Control System Design: Experience in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, motion control, and automation systems design.
  • CAD Proficiency: Skilled in using AutoCAD Electrical to create detailed schematics and system diagrams.
  • Hands-On Testing & Troubleshooting: Proven ability to conduct field commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of industrial systems.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to write clear technical documentation and communicate complex ideas effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Self-Motivated: Proven track record of working independently, managing multiple priorities, and delivering results in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in industries such as Building Products Manufacturing (Wood-based, Engineered Wood, Cementitious), Pulp & Paper, or Advanced Composites (Aerospace, Automotive, Infrastructure).
  • Knowledge of industrial automation, PLC controls, Fanuc robotics, and servo control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with field commissioning and equipment start-up.
  • Ability to work in a customer-facing role, understanding client needs and adapting solutions accordingly.
