The Dell Medical School of The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Associate Chair of Investigation and Discovery of the Department of Women's Health.
The Dell Medical School accepted its first class of 50 students in 2016, with the explicit aim of creating a vital, comprehensive health ecosystem. As part of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the nation's leading research universities, the Dell Medical School will pursue innovation in the redesign of healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and programs in interdisciplinary and inter-professional education. It is the fifth medical school in the UT System and the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. An extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, has already been made to enable the development and success of the Dell Medical School.
The Associate Chair of Investigation and Discovery will be an integral part of the continued growth and development of the research program within the Department. The position is sub-specialty agnostic, thus open to applicants independent of area of sub-specialization or interest.
Specific job responsibilities will include:
Partner with Department leadership to develop a strategic plan for research; aligning with the clinical priorities of the Department and building on the existing areas of strength within the myriad of outstanding programs at UT Austin
Lead the continued growth and development of a sustainable research infrastructure for the Department
Create models for faculty and trainee research support, including training, tools and collaborative platforms
Identify and secure funding for Departmental research priorities
Enhance opportunities for implementation and dissemination of discovery to improve health in the Austin community
Develop metrics and performance evaluation processes for faculty members' research contributions in conjunction with Department Chair
Collaborate with the Associate Chair of Clinical Integration and Operations and Education to ensure cohesive, mutually reinforcing initiatives
Represent the Department in key research related decision making bodies within the Dell Medical School and with care partners
Collaborate with other departmental Associate Chairs of Investigation and Discovery in other Dell Medical School Departments on cross-cutting initiatives
Develop and foster cross-campus collaborations
Support the continued development of an innovative research curriculum in graduate medical education
Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited medical school
Board certification in obstetrics and gynecology
Eligible for appointment as a tenured associate professor or professor
Substantial record of leadership and achievement in academic medicine including sustained acquisition and participation in funded work
Experience in leading large-scale research programs in obstetrics and gynecology
