Overview

GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Senior Automation & Scheduling Engineer based in the Harrisburg, PA area. This role is hybrid and will require 1 day onsite per week.

Position Overview

As a Senior Automation & Scheduling Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design, deployment, and management of enterprise-scale job scheduling and automation solutions that enhance the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of IT operations across diverse platforms. Leveraging deep expertise in tools such as Stonebranch Workload Automation, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to orchestrate system jobs, implement event-based workflows, and support the lifecycle of automated processes from design to optimization. Your role will be key in driving operational excellence through intelligent automation, proactive troubleshooting, and strategic alignment with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of job scheduling solutions using Stonebranch Workload Automation tools.
  • Collaborate with IT operations and cross-functional teams to develop event-driven workflows across mainframe, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot job scheduling processes, including force finishing and re-running tasks, and analyze task outputs to resolve issues and ensure performance.
  • Manage task workflow lifecycle, including configuration of tasks, workflows, variables, and lifecycle optimization.
  • Create and maintain detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and documentation for deployments, maintenance, and incident response.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Managed Service Providers, system administrators, and business units to align job scheduling strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to IT teams regarding automation and scheduling best practices.
  • Develop and generate reports, including task forecasting, progress tracking, and system performance for leadership review.
  • Participate in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and testing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus 4+ years of relevant scheduling and automation experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and certifications.
  • Expert-level experience with Stonebranch automation tools and technologies (deployment, configuration, optimization).
  • Proven experience in job scheduling and automation within complex enterprise IT environments.
  • Strong knowledge of task and workflow lifecycle management.
  • Experience working with IT infrastructure operations (mainframes, on-premises, hybrid IT environments).
  • Proficiency in Bash/Korn Shell scripting.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Skilled in configuring triggers, actions, run/skip criteria, and working with local/global variables.
  • Ability to lead modeling sessions to analyze design issues or requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills across technical and business stakeholders.


Preferred Experience

  • PowerShell scripting experience.
  • Python scripting knowledge.
  • Understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the underlying OS for automation solutions.
  • Basic knowledge of networking and client access troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with public cloud deployment and automation strategies.
