Job Description Summary
The Lead Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for the quality of procured services, materials, and products in the nuclear business. In this role you will develop requirements and plans for supplier qualifications, drive quality for assigned suppliers, own supplier results, and drive quality plan implementation and supplier improvements. In addition, you will own supplier audits, ensure compliance, and drive improvement plans where needed. The SQE also investigates and analyzes nonconforming products to determine root cause and execute corrective actions within the supply base.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities
  • This position is On-Site and will require relocation to Wilmington, NC
  • Perform Supplier Quality Engineer activities focusing on supplier approval, supplier qualification and quality control of the procurement activities.
  • Provide technical guidance to a global supplier base to assure product and process compliance with regulatory requirements and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Development of inspection, verification, qualification plans, in addition to tests and processes to assure products and services meet the quality requirements.
  • Work proactively with suppliers to resolve quality concerns applying technical and quality expertise to avoid reoccurrences of quality issues.
  • Investigate and analyze nonconforming products to determine root cause and execute corrective actions within the supply base.
  • Work closely with Sourcing, business teams, manufacturing, and engineering to eliminate roadblocks and communication barriers that may affect quality requirements.
  • Implement changes to improve processes and product quality, optimize production of quality at the source, and eliminate failures/losses.
  • Encourage excellence in compliance, customer service, safety, quality and productivity. Drive team and process continuous improvement through Lean.
  • Write and review technical quality documents, plans and procedures.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with 7 years of professional experience in quality, engineering, nuclear operations, manufacturing, sourcing or equivalent discipline; OR Associate Degree from an accredited college, with 10 years of professional experience in quality, engineering, nuclear operations, manufacturing, sourcing or equivalent discipline.


Eligibility Requirements
  • This role is located at GE Hitachi Nuclear headquarters in Wilmington, NC to be able to work site on a daily basis
  • Ability and willingness to travel to GE sites and suppliers up to 20% of the time as required
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.


Desired Characteristics
  • Engineering or other technical degree; Master's Degree in business / engineering
  • Experience working within a nuclear QA program in Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, Engineering, Operations or Sourcing activities.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with, 10CFR50 Appendix B or ISO-9000 requirements
  • Knowledge of quality and sourcing disciplines, including supplier development / management, quality systems.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude in supplier quality, design engineering or manufacturing engineering role.
  • Experience with electrical/electronic equipment procurement / quality requirements.
  • Experience working with customers, regulators and suppliers
  • Product quality experience in a high technology and/or highly regulated industry
  • Previous or current Lead Auditor certification
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to communicate & collaborate effectively at all levels; strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Suite and Oracle Enterprise Resources Planning System (ERP) systems.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification. Experience implementing and sustaining continuous improvement through Lean tools, including KPI/metrics to drive improvement.
  • GE Program graduate, e.g., EEDP, OMLP, FEP (GE employees only).


The base pay range for this position is $94,000 to $115,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on Friday May 9th

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
