The Opportunity

We are seeking a Compliance and Operational Risk Testing Analyst Lead for our Bank Risk Testing Team. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Second Line of Defense (SLOD) testing or audit experience, with a strong focus on the Credit Card Risk sector. This role demands a track record of leading large engagements and cross-functional projects while ensuring compliance and operational risk management align with the organization's objectives, thus supporting our dedication to risk mitigation and regulatory adherence.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:
  • Develops the steps needed to test and/or analyze compliance with policies/procedures and laws/regulations.
  • Serves as an expert in a specific subject/business area and provides guidance to team members on complex issues.
  • Leads and runs a grouping of tests to ensure operational risks and compliance requirements are adhered to.
  • Reviews and implements, as needed, work papers to support conclusions of test findings.
  • Provides input on allocation of resources to complete testing activities.
  • Performs qualitative analysis of data.
  • May develop executive briefs and present to key internal and external partners.
  • Builds, develops, and manages relationships with the business and internal control partners (Audit, Risk & Compliance, Legal) to facilitate teamwork between all lines of defense for testing.


What you have:
  • Bachelor's Degree OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a Degree.
  • 8 or more years of meaningful work experience (internal/external audit, operational risk/compliance testing, quality assurance)
  • Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and regulatory compliance in a specific area.
  • Proven experience interpreting and applying federal and state laws and regulations and operational risk principles/concepts.
  • Knowledge of testing techniques and data analysis principles, as well as the ability to interpret subsequent results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of management.
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • 10+ years SLOD (Second Line of Defense) Testing or Audit experience
  • 3 + years leading large engagements, cross functional projects OR direct leadership
  • Knowledge of credit card risk and compliance techniques
  • Ability to effectively interact and connect with all levels of leadership, committee members or regulators
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to exercise balanced judgment and decision making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex/technical topics to non-technical audiences


Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310 - $243,340

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
