As the Executive Director of Human Resources and CHRO, you will serve as a key advisor to the President and executive leadership team, leading HR strategy and operations across all locations. This high-impact role is responsible for recruitment, employee relations, policy development, HR systems, change management, compensation and benefits, and organizational development.
As an executive team member reporting directly to the President, the Executive Director of Human Resources and CHRO will guide and empower a dedicated HR team while shaping people-centered programs that align with VU's mission, vision, and values. Duties and Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a strategic member and advisor to the President and executive leadership on HR matters.
- Develop and implement data-informed HR strategies aligned with institutional goals.
- Collaborate with the CFO to design competitive total compensation programs.
- Champion a positive workplace culture that supports employee engagement and success.
- Guide the University through change management and organizational development efforts.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee all HR operations, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, and policy development.
- Partner with legal and IT teams to ensure compliance, data security, and HRIS optimization.
- Develop, utilize, and monitor HR metrics and provide insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Manage the HR budget and ensure efficient resource allocation.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop a collaborative HR team.
- Foster strong partnerships across departments and campuses.
- Champion dynamic and supportive environments that encourage innovation and belonging.
- Implement effective recognition, engagement, and leadership development programs.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (master's degree preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR or other HR certification preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading strategic HR initiatives in complex organizations.
- Deep understanding of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in higher education or public sector environments is a plus.
