The WebSphere System Administrator will design, implement, and maintain enterprise application environments using IBM WebSphere. This employee will work collaboratively with technical teams to support and troubleshoot middleware systems, optimize performance, and ensure high availability and security in both traditional and modern infrastructure environments.

*This position will be hired at the System Administrator or Senior System Administrator level.

** This position is eligible to work hybrid (9 or more days a month onsite) in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.

Compensation

$92,000 - $126,000
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The salary range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive salaries that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.


What you'll do
  • Design, install, configure, and manage WebSphere Application Server environments including Liberty and Network Deployment editions
  • Deploy and support enterprise Java applications, including resource configuration and descriptor management
  • Coordinate with infrastructure, application, database, and operations teams to support cross-functional initiatives
  • Manage IBM HTTP Server configurations and SSL certificate lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and UNIX/Linux shell scripts to support WebSphere automation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve WebSphere-related issues, performance problems, and system errors
  • Implement and maintain proactive system monitoring and health checks
  • Document configuration standards, architecture diagrams, and technical procedures
  • Provide tiered technical support and participate in after-hours on-call rotation
  • Maintain system security and compliance with internal policies and industry best practices


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong understanding of WebSphere architecture (Cells, Nodes, Profiles, Liberty Features)
  • Experience with Java Virtual Machines (JVM), resource bindings, and deployment descriptors
  • Proficient in Unix/Linux system administration and scripting
  • Working knowledge of LDAP, federated repositories, and access control
  • Ability to generate and manage SSL certificates and secure configurations
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and documentation abilities
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team environment


What you need
  • High school or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Information Technology required.
  • Able to work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Must be available to work non-business hours, including weekends, as part of an on-call rotation


Bonus if you have
  • 2+ years as an IBM WebSphere administrator preferred
  • Experience with IBM HTTP Server and enterprise Java application deployment preferred.
