A role in Government Affairs means ensuring local and federal government entities have positive relationships with Target Enterprise. You will act as an advocate on behalf of Target and serve as an internal expert to both internal and external entities on a variety of key social and governmental issues an internal expert to both internal and external entities on a variety of key social and governmental issues that allow Target to conduct business in the most productive way.

This work is performed in a dynamic, sometimes volatile and highly visible political environment that involves significant reputation and brand considerations. With your experience, network, and policy knowledge, a successful Team Member will be open, intellectually curious, and committed to working in a bipartisan fashion.

Target's Government Affairs team is highly collaborative, and each Team Member is expected to bring their input and recommendations to the team's work. This includes Team Member civic engagement and awareness, and external and internal risk and reputation management, all consistent with Target's values and purpose.

As a Senior Manager, Government Affairs Sat Target, you'll be an integral part of our Government Affairs team, driving impactful advocacy and fostering strategic relationships with local elected officials and community stakeholders. You'll work closely with the regional Government Affairs Director and collaborate with a diverse team of professionals to influence public policy and enhance Target's competitive edge in a dynamic and visible political environment.
Advocacy and Representation:

o Build and maintain strategic relationships with local elected officials and public safety leaders, such as district attorneys and police chiefs.

o Advocate on behalf of Target with local lawmakers, including mayors, city council

members, local planning commissions, and other local government stakeholders.

o In close collaboration with the regional Government Affairs Director, represent Target in industry groups, working groups, and coalitions.
Problem Solving and Issue Management:

o Address local issues impacting stores and distribution centers, including neighborhood complaints and good neighbor agreements.

o Partner with the Government Affairs Director to monitor legislative developments, conduct policy research, and support state and local advocacy efforts.
Community Engagement:

o Collaborate with the Stores, Properties, and Real Estate teams to support events such as groundbreakings, ribbon-cuttings, and store openings (VIGs).

o Partner with the Community Impact team to represent Target at relevant events and initiatives.

o Support grassroots activities, including calls to action, store tours, and distribution center activations.
Strategic Insight and Trend Monitoring:

o Develop an intelligence-gathering strategy to identify emerging trends and proactively address potential impacts to the business.

o Shape advocacy priorities in alignment with Target's business objectives and values.

About You:
Bachelor's degree in political science, Business, Communications, Marketing, or a related field or equivalent experience.
3-5 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or external engagement.
Availability to travel up to 25%
Proven ability to analyze complex policy issues, solve problems creatively, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills, with a track record of building lasting relationships with stakeholders.
Commitment to upholding discretion and sensitivity when working with confidential information.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to engage cross-functional teams and contribute to Target's values-driven culture.
