Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensures accurate calibration and configuration of treatment planning and delivery equipment including: linear accelerators, brachtherapy sealed sources, treatment planning computers, dose verification software and quality assurance and survey equipment.
- Participates in quality assurance program consistent with American Association of Physicists in Medicine recommendations including: monthly and annual quality assurance tests of equipment and weekly checks of patient charts.
- Collects accurate treatment planning and patient dosimetry data.
- Performs and verifies treatment planning calculations and related patient billing.
- Provides for accurate data collection, management, and transmission in support of research protocols selected by department chairman as well as ensures compliance with study credentialing requirements.
- Acts as an expert resource for the Lead Medical Physicist in the areas of: equipment purchase, selection and development of new treatment modalities and regulatory compliance and billing issues.
- Acts as a Certified Radiation Expert, Individual Responsible for Radiation Protection, and/or Radiation Safety Officer as necessary for departments and contracts. Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations.
- Assists in the development and monitoring of labor, revenue, expense and capital budgets.
- Performs other position related duties as assigned.
- Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
- American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) certification.
- BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
- Licensure and certifications as required by State.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in medical physics or in a biophysics required.
- Master's degree in medical physics, biophysics, physics or closely related field may be substituted for one year required experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum five years experience in clinical radiation therapy physics.
- Minimum three years experience in applied medical physics, preferably at a medical broad scope licensee, requiring professional level judgment and involving radiation safety.
