Role Overview
We are seeking a strong, hands-on leader to play a critical role in shaping and delivering our data platform strategy. As the Senior Director of Data Platforms & Engineering, you will lead the development of scalable data systems that support our Accounts Payables automation products and broader business needs. Reporting to the VP of Data Platforms and Engineering, you'll be responsible for driving execution, leading teams, and enabling modern data capabilities across the organization.
This role will ideally sit in our Charlotte, NC HQ (Uptown Charlotte - Hybrid - Tues, Weds, Thurs onsite).

What you'll do
- Lead the design, development, and evolution of scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms aligned with business and product needs.
- Implement best practices in data engineering, including ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehousing, data governance, lineage, and quality frameworks.
- Collaborate with the VP to refine data architecture that supports analytics, AI/ML, and operational insights.
- Lead and grow a team of talented data engineers and platform developers.
- Drive engineering excellence through mentorship, clear performance expectations, and measurable KPIs.
- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement within the data team.
- Work closely with product, engineering, architecture, AI, customer care, and operations teams to embed data capabilities into core products and internal processes.
- Translate business and product requirements into scalable data solutions that create tangible impact.
- Ensure data quality, security, and observability are built into the platform by design.
- Support implementation of governance and compliance frameworks in collaboration with data governance and security teams.
- Partner with AI and product teams to build infrastructure that powers intelligent and data-driven experiences.
- Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies that enhance platform scalability and data democratization.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline (Master's preferred)
- 12 or more years of experience in data engineering or platform development, with 8 or more years in a people leadership role.
- Proven experience in building and operating data platforms on cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong technical knowledge in data architecture, data pipelines (ETL/ELT), real-time streaming (Kafka/Spark), and data warehousing
- Familiarity with AI/ML enablement through modern data architecture (Lakehouse, Data Mesh, etc.)
- Experience in Fintech, SaaS, or payments-related domains is a plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally across technical and business teams
