Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Principal Structural Engineer to join our Charlotte Design Office. Responsible in the design office for routine engineering and design tasks of the civil/structural area of assigned projects based on specific and detailed instructions received from the assigned supervisor as to the required tasks and results expected.

Work Environment
Employee will work primarily in an office however may work in other environments including warehouse and, in a trailer, or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
Remote work may be an option for some candidates.

Responsibilities
- Perform Structural Engineering duties in the Management of the Project's workforce, finances, and materials used on the specific project.
- Responsible for design and safety of temporary structures used during construction.
- Applying basic technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts in development of engineering design packages.
- Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis.
- Experience with performing material take offs for steel and concrete on industrial projects.
- Write technical specifications and scopes of work for steel, concrete, and geotechnical materials.
- Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review, to implement operating procedures, and resolve system malfunctions.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Provide specific to discipline technical expertise to the degree of preparing and providing training for other personnel; both within the company and for the customer.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from a four-year college or university with focus in Structural Design Courses.
- 15+ years of Structural Engineering experience in the Power and Industrial industry.
- Knowledge of STAAD, RISA, Enercalc or similar analyst software
- Ability to check calculations and drawings
- Familiarity with 3D design and viewing software such as Navisworks
- Experience with large industrial projects, and understanding of project environments, requirements, and risks
- Knowledge and understanding of engineering, construction, and project management
- Ability to make good judgments and quick decisions
- Proven negotiation skills
- Strong language skills (written and oral)
- Strong math skills
- Possess strong computer skills, especially in Excel and Word
- Expert technical knowledge of suppliers products and capabilities
- Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to thrive in a team working environment
- Strong interpersonal skill
